The backup thread
This thread is to hold announcements by admins that a backup has just been taken, and also requests that a backup be taken. Admins should be coping under their own steam, so requests won’t generally be needed. But if we’re asleep, or you have just done a lot of posting, request anyway. To start: • B...

Same problem on my Mac and others’ PCs, so server-side. A quick attempt at google found bugs but no solution. Feel free to do better!

Re: 1996 Quinta de la Rosa
Late in the evening we managed to persuade ourselves that we were in danger of becoming thirsty. Quite how I don’t known. So a $35 1996 Quinta de la Rosa was opened, and decanted, and vigorously shaken in a vain attempt to aerate. My notes are rather incomplete. Nosing of smoke, then ham, honey-roas...

Re: 2000 Ferreira
2000 Ferreira : same purple as ’95. Nosing strongly of violets, and youthful plums. Big astringency. Big plums. Sweeter than others, and too much tannin. Way too young. Also, a consequence. There was the first meeting of the International Society for the Preservation of Traditional Port Labels (exa...

Re: 1995 Ferreira
1995 Ferreira: very purple. Nosing strongly of alcohol, flowers, and youthful black fruit. To taste young black fruit, rich plums, and blackcurrant. Fine, but too young.

Re: 1985 Ferreira
1985 Ferreira : apparently multiply filter, but despite that cloudy complexion. Nose as faint as the ’77, though some red fruit that could have been cranberry. Also flowers, rightly identified by AJRH as rose, who also best captured the taste: ‟malt chocolate”. With some heat. Nicer than the above...

Re: 1983 Ferreira Quinta do Seixo
1983 Ferreira Quinta do Seixo : browner than the ’78, and to smell more fruit than both its older siblings. Somebody said ‟some tawny characteristics”. To taste dominated by an odd bitterness, which I found thoroughly off-putting. Not liked by me. I had tasted the 1983 Ferreira Quinta do Seixo a fe...

Re: 1978 Ferreira
1978 Ferreira : bright red to behold. Nose even fainter than that of the ’77. Lovely mouthfeel, unctuous at the start, with much more fruit than the ’77. But the taste fainter, at its strongest late into the aftertaste. Good length. My first sampling found no bitterness. But late-arriving AJRH, who...
