Re: Photography technique
In each case several shots were taken, and the best used. This is precisely the method I use - I was hoping you had a secret trick that would save me some time It’s all of an extra ¼ minute per shot. Reminding you that you should be waiting patiently for the port to develop in the decanter, perh...

Photography technique
Until the pictures that triggered this thread, I have photographed bottles by holding them in the air about 2½' from my Mac’s built-in camera. Just before taking the picture Apple’s PhotoBooth does a screen white-out as a diffuse flash. This picture is then trimmed, with no colour adjustments. The R...

Flash suggestions
Back to the subject. The problem is whiteout from the flash versus darkness without flash.
- Does taping a piece of paper over the flash provide enough diffusion?
- Mount in a picture frame without glass a piece of white paper. Does shining a light onto that work?
- Other suggestions?

The one time I had Nacional 1963, in the company of Mr Bridgeman, it tasted of raspberries.
Me too: I would have this again.

I repeat my encouragement. please could other posters of TN consider themselves encouraged to include photographs of bottle, cork, and—most importantly—port. Photography geekiness I can’t do. Are you affected by the flooding? Is your cellar safe?
Hundreds of people have fled their homes in three villages in South Yorkshire amid fears a dam is about to burst after torrential rain. … Elsewhere weather conditions are easing after severe flooding across England. But Sheffield remained virtually cut off from the rest of the country as the transp...

Antidisestablishmentarianists' Corner
Likewise I could call it Antidisestablishmentarianists' Corner. That’s always awkward. The corner could be used by one antidisestablishmentarianist (so ‟Antidisestablishmentarianist's”), but is intended for the use of many to discuss these things (‟Antidisestablishmentarianists'”, as you wrote, a...

Smiths was always too smooth for me — perhaps too Northern in its style. I like more bitter and more grip.
A gallon? The most beer I have ever seen a man drink before debladdering is twelve pints, on the Monopoly pub crawl. He admitted that it was a “long slash†.

A term invented by yours truly. Like a double vertical, except that one of the houses is missing about half the years. From the Latin “sesqui-†, meaning one-and-a-half times.
