Re: 2019 Declarations
There is a proper grumble to be made about the Symingtons’ 2019 declaration. No, it is not holding prices steady (thank you to the Syms). Nor about releasing a set of Nines at a fair price (thank you to the Syms). No, not these. Instead there is a proper serious grumble. It is starkly obvious, and d...

2015 Crasto LBV
@Big_Fortified_Tasting Crasto 2015 LBV . Dark red, 95% opaque. Quite a dry LBV, with red grape, and green herbs, maybe even basil, and a touch of spearmint. Dryness persists to the still-full ending, which is long and full. This is a solid LBV, which could be drunk in quantity — by me, a much large...

@Big_Fortified_Tasting has traditionally been the place to tasting newly released Port. New learning this year: at home, so that it can be done whilst my work computer beeps at me, and whilst being reminded of domestic duties. Quinta do Portal Vintage Port 2018 : 100% opaque dark purple, and red ri...

Re: 2021 Virtual Tasting #8 - Thurs 15 April - Graham’s
No. Just no.
Dow declared 1899; Graham declared 1901; approximately everybody else declared 1900. So we can’t start a Graham tasting at 1900. Did you mean Warre? And if you are arranging a Warre vertical starting at 1900, yes please, definitely include me.

Re: 21st birthday port — 2018 and 2019
So they get two dozen of Port, and the junior dozen is Dow or Vesuvio. This will not be a life of hardship. For my judgement, Dow (or the other fine names mentioned) can mature slowly for most of forty years. Hence, rather than seeking impossible quantities of the unavailable, you buy larger quantit...

Re: Poças, Tue 26 April 2022
Let’s guess that we will have access to the Ports we have, plus those for which the website has data sheets . That would be 10 × colheita + 4 × tawny with indication of age + 12 × VP + 4 × LBV. Perhaps I’m older than formerly, but thirty in one session starts to be non-trivial consumption. Tawnies a...

George, Phil: I think that answers the question. ‘Junior’ seemed, well, junior, so was de-emphasised circa 1980.

Re: Poças, Tue 26 April 2022
Idle perusal of vintageport.se tells me this was a business founded by Manoel D. Poças Junior in 1918 (that explains the '100 years' cork on the 2000 colheita botled in 2018, I was wondering) and now called Manoel D. Poças Junior Vinhos SA. I infer that Poças Junior and Poças are the same wine, the...

Re: Poças, Tue 26 April 2022
We’ve never properly tasted the wines of Poças , a house best known for its wood-aged Ports, but which also makes VP and LBV. I have tasted too few of all categories. It is envisaged — so not a firm plan — that we will start with a flight of wood-aged, tawnies or colheitas or both. Then with and aft...

Re: 1994s, Tue 16 Nov 2021
Mike: are you willing to make available printing facilities, such that trimmed A2 becomes possible, which would allow twenty-one glasses? Or twenty-one on A2 trimmed to be 1″ = 25.4mm taller than A4, and 86.0mm ≈ 3.39″ less wide than 3×A4. (Radius ≈ 122.841pt ≈ 1.71″ ≈ 43.34mm.) http://www.jdawisema...
