Re: Sandeman Tawny Port

Sorry, news OK and bad. It will be pleasant Port, which might even be good. But it’s perhaps worth £10.

I suggest drinking it, or giving it to a friend.

Re: Thu 08 Jun - 67@50 2017

I’d welcome a good-quality high-resolution picture of the label of GB67. Please?

• Then you aren’t using the local theme, ThePortForumRed.

• Scrolling is either unread posts or many posts — I forget which.

Re: The Port Forum Babies and their Vintages

If your 2009 granddaughter turns out to be reserved and traditional then the Taylor seems fitting. If she turns out to be of a quirky, off-the-wall and risk-taking nature then the Bioma might be the answer  Foolish advice, based on an elementary type error. What sort of personality do you wan...

Re: 1977 Offley

O77, a late-decanted late addition from AHB]s friend Bob. Dark dark red, 60% opaque. Nose of wood and fruit. There’s good port underneath the woodiness, but it being late in the evening I did not note its qualities.

Re: 1967 Cockburn

Ck67, decanted 14:30. Glorious red, 50% opaque. Palate started with very strong liquorice. Also soft red fruits. Long and full — this showed very well indeed. Would have added further pleasure to a table of ’66s.

Re: 1974 Pocas

Pç74, decanted 13:00. Red-brown, 40% opaque. Nose had strawberries, and an acrid note. Palate started dry, and ended dry, with strawberries in between. Of middling weight. Good Port, but not great.

We were not very expert at guessing a Poças 1974.

Mg1991, with Yeatman label. Nose of Prunes. Palate rich and sweet. Dark dark prunes. Sweet and rich and too young. This Morgan showed very well.

Re: 1960 Sandeman

S60, decanted 14:00. Pale apricot colour — oh dear. Nose had lots of acidity. Palate starts strong, acidity prominent, very crisp and refereshing. Then the mid- and late-palates very faint. It’s Port Captain, but not as we know it.

Cr63,decanted 12:30. Red-brown. 50% opaque. Smoky nose. Palate had sweetness, but also woodiness. Slightly acrid. Improved, but not wholly fixed, with extra glass time.

T77, decanted 14:30. Dark red, 60% opaque. Nose sweet with red cherries. Palate of lovely mature Port, red fruits and excellent-melded sweetness.

Re: 1970 Avery

Av70, decanted 13:30. Dark red, 70% opaque. palate of big red-fruited softness. White pepper mid-palate; long and lovely. A mite lighter than perfect, but that’s nit-picking.

Re: Wed 22nd March 2017, Blind at the Boot & Flogger

A splendid evening, full of surprises. Not often that a table is graced with Pç74. And the spread of points fairly showed that much Port could be drunk with pleasure.

Thank you to Charles for arranging.
