Re: 1977 Gould Campbell

D+1d The bitterness on the finish has now almost gone, but it is still a beast, dense with more development to go. I think Jacob may be right ! :D

1977 Gould Campbell

I took a bit of a daft risk and bought an 11 bottle "case". This is the first bottle, and so far so good - no TCA. Barely any bricking at the rim, this is looking unexpectedly youthfull for a '77. D+6h crikey this is still quite tannic, massive and fairly tightly wound, with a hefty finish...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

I think that Asda have moved on to the 2009 for the Dow's Bomfim (atleast that is what they delivered to me).

I did manage to get 5 bottles from them about three weeks ago (I ordered 10). I have another 10 on order for Monday, let's see - fingers crossed ! :)

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Amazon currently has Grahams crusted 2013 on sale for £15, if you subscribe to their monthly "Subscribe and Save" plan for 5 items or more you can knock off another 15% (£12.75), I add a few bottles to make the cat food cheaper - atleast that is my argument when confronted :-) .

1983 Gould Campbell

D+6H Light red at the rim, tending to medium red at the core. Light fruity strawberry nose, quite dense on the palate, good fruit and acidity - just beginning to come to maturity, but with plenty of life left. Thoroughly satisfying 91 pts.

1977 Gould Campbell

D +4hrs: almost no evolution at the rim - very shy nose. Fierce alcohol on the palate, feral, this really does not resemble a 40+ year old port. The tannins are still fairly hefty, this is the first bottle from a case bought at auction. 89pts.

I had crossed my fingers that the dates would work for everyone, but sadly not to be. Many thanks for your kind offer on the bottles. Have fun in Asia.
Thank you very much - have a great tasting.

I am afraid I shall be in Asia during that period, and so will have to withdraw.

Have a good tasting and I shall be with you in spirit from afar !

If any of my bottles are needed, I am happy to contribute.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Asda delivered 12 bottles today - 4 of which were Dows Crusted 2012 - the others Cockburn 2013 LBV and Taylors Reserve Ruby, despite my having specified no substitutions. 8 bottles were politely rejected.

I hold out very little hope for the 24 bottles due tomorrow :-).

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Asda online (I do not know about their branches) have Dow's Crusted Port on sale reduced from £18.00 to £13.50. They are coy as to the bottling date (the image would suggest 2003 or 2005 - the last number is partially obscured), but it may well be a later bottling. I have ordered some as future cell...

Sounds a great idea - I have 2000, 2001 & 2002 not listed above.

I really hope I can make it (I work abroad more than half the year), if I cannot then I am very happy to put the bottles up for adoption should they be needed.

Re: Experience with BI Wines

I bought some port from them earlier this year and had the same problem - in the end I sent them a cheque as I was overseas and my bank's online banking is not that great. The port arrived once the cheque had been received. I believe (but this is only my supposition) that this may be due to an EU ru...

Re: 10th Sep 2019 - 1966 Horizontal at the B&F

Very sad, I will not be able to make it :-( I shall be at at trade fair in Asia. That is a great pity. Unfortunately, with this many people and so few practical dates to choose from it was somewhat inevitable that one or more would have two drop out. We hope to see you at another event soon. Thank ...
