Re: RE: Re: Ideas for tastings

I believe this year is Warre's 350th anniversary. It would seem a good year to do a Warre vertical - although we might struggle to make it a full vertical with every vintage going back to 1670. We could make our lives easier by only going back to 1729 when the company became named "Warre". As a sta...

Neil - which Vale was this? Meão? Dona Maria? Mendiz? Another one I can’t think of?

Thanks
Aah, good point.
Just checked and it's the D.Maria.

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

I'm still visiting 67 Pall Mall with Alex this week, but having discussed further with Mike, I suspect we're going to come to a conclusion that B&F is a better option. I'm still keen to do the big 70 tasting and happy to assist in organising. However, might well do some form of additional 70-themed ...

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

Some thoughts on the thoughts above. This is the sort of leadership that we like to see. We need an "Everyone else take one step backwards" emoticon  A suggestion for the tiers: I think it would be interesting to include Dow Bomfim and Taylor Vargellas in Tier 1 to allow them to be tasted alon...

Potentially including some different shippers for the same vintage.

I'd be happy to organise this one if it was of interest...

Was mildly concerned about the bottle I was planning to bring, so have prepared an alternative as well. Assume it's OK to use the spare slot on the placemat?

Re: Pointless Statistics

@nac - question - why so much 12/13/14 Noval? Do you feel it is a house that is on a particular roll in those years, or is there a back story of which I am not aware? 2012 was a "strategic purchase" - was offered 3 bottles of the Nacional 2004 with 3 cases of the Noval. Then picked up individual ca...

Only 38% of the total are "ready" What is your definition of 'ready'? For VP, mine crept forward over the years from 18 years to 21 and then 24 and finally to 24 'for investigative purposes' and 30 for mainstream drinking. I've used the 21 year rule for the calculation, but the reality is that I'm ...

Re: Pointless Statistics

As at close of play on 7th January 2020, I believe my total stock of port to be 699 bottles (of varying sizes). 74% is resting in my cellar and the remainder is in bond. 73% is "normal" Vintage Port; an additional 5% is what I've described as "Premium Vintage Port" (ie, Nacional, Stone Terraces, Cap...

Re: Ideas for tastings

Is there any interest in an occasional non-port tasting/dinner? I'd be up for something non port. I think the challenge though, will be finding a wine that enough people here hold, to make a tasting viable. Of course if someone alone had a deep vertical of Pétrus that they want to lay on at a nice ...

Re: Festive Drinking

Guests at the Musar dinner brought along 1/3 bottle of 2013 Royal Tokaji 5 Puttonyos and a 1/2 of 2015 Disznoko 5 Puttonyos to have with dessert. Both excellent but the Disznoko came out slightly ahead. The Croft 70 with the cheese was superb (following 6 hour decant) but I was unable to make any se...

Re: 2020 - A 1970 horizontal

As one of the 1970 vintage babies, have a vested interest in this. As such, AHB and I are going to look at 67 Pall Mall (of which I'm a shareholder) as a possible venue for hosting a 1970 tasting.

Will report back mid Jan re potential options...

Re: Ideas for tastings

Is there any interest in an occasional non-port tasting/dinner? Whilst I potentially run the risk of being branded a heretic for even suggesting this within these hallowed pages, I think there may be an appetite. For example, I can offer up a vertical of the Bonneau du Martray Corton and Corton-Char...
