You are in Belgium right now??? Where? Do tell! I have some wine you need to drink. I think. Probably. Reesling or something like that, and some Sugarrebe.

Granted, this probably should go under a different headliner, but the theme is relevant: Niepoort decided to forego their renowned dry wines 'Batuta' and 'Charme' bottlings for 2006 as well. Apparently quality was a bit evasive in 2006, something I detected amongst many Douro wines at ProWein a few ...

g-man...Rolling Stones does rate music, but I think it's with stars or something, no? Not the 100-point system so frequently in use amongst the wine cognescenti. I don't know how exactly they arrive at their scores and find a great deal of them to be flat-out wrong, but hey, that's the subjective na...

Sorry  A sensitive subject for me, this scoring business. I wish I could get to the point a bit quicker like you Derek. I wholeheartedly agree with the comment you made about notes that are incredibly descriptive and precise. While being interesting and very helpful--I myself attempt to write ...

Now. NOW. Here's the rub: The world of wine aficionados is inundated with those for whom points are of utmost importance. I don't think this is inherently a bad thing. For many of us, the greatest ports we've ever drank are extremely high scorers, mostly 95+. Certainly we're not searching out these ...

This issue is probably the most perplexing aspect of wine appreciation, for me at least. I think that when considering (high) quality wine, we're primarily evaluating it as a work of art, perhaps only slightly more than as a work of science. I think this is collectively a safe assumption. With that ...

To the Roots! I raise a toast to you both and thank you so much for sharing your lives, your wine and both your homes with Mandy and me over the last four years. It's sad to think you will be so far away for the next four, but I suppose things won't be too entirely different than they are now, aside...

It all makes sense now, the glorious heat all year round in Oman...and it's not its proximity to the equator. It's quite apparent from the picture that Oman benefits from not one, but TWO suns: the one in the sky, and Ronnie's legs. Somebody get me my Blu Blockuhs 88) 88) 88) !!!

Am I the only one who's noticed Ronnie's bottle quality index name-thingy...Niepoort Paint 1994. Genius. Hopefully tomorrow this becomes Niepoort Saint 1994, and not Niepoort Taint 1994, if y'all know what I mean. :o

You must look for the higher prices in different places to discover what are the real good wines. While I agree with AHB and Conky, you can't help but ackowledge that soooooooo many people believe THIS lie that's it's quite impossible to classify it as 'deception', especially when every endorses it...

Take a whole-wheat hot dog bun and toast both sides (does not have to be done at the same time; this works better if toasted separately). Take some high cocoa percentage milk chocolate and melt it on one side of the toasted hot dog bun. Sprinkle chili powder on top of the melted chocolate. On the ot...

2003 Kruger-Rumpf Spaetburgunder 'R'

Pinot Noir. I'd forgotten this nut-kicker came in at a smashing 15% alcohol. In the glass, the nose was closed for business upwards of two hours. I've never experienced something so muted before (actually, a 1997 Leoville Las Cases never emerged after three days in a decanter. Fail.). Vigorous swirl...

1995 Warre Quinta da Cavadinha

This wine is beautiful in the way a bonfire is beautiful-the smell, the sparks flying, embers burning, the heat, the atmosphere. This was exuberant, youthful wine that, with air, continued to take on more and more nuances...and became hotter and hotter on the finish. All the fruit is there in spades...

Ronnie, Where are you at right now? Are you still in Dutchland? Or long since departed? Sucks that the SB was lackluster, but maybe we should have expected that. I have never had opportunity to try a Cloudy Bay SB, but based on reports here and abroad, this is something I'll have to put on the 'Must...

PM Question: The 'Outbox'

Admin, I have a message lingering in my Outbox as opposed to my Sentbox. This message is rather important and I'm curious as to the status of a message in the Outbox: Has it actually been sent, or is it waiting to be sent? Shall I just cut and paste the same message to a New Post and get on with it,...

It is nevertheless officially considered a 'Nation' though, is it not? On top of being considered as a province somewhat more alienated than the others, and for obvious reasons.

All this jolly Martinez talk is just a fat, sticky red seal on the 1994 Martinez purchase. LadySimon got paid today...hmm, what shall I do but attempt to acquire some?
