Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022

We were talking about the 1989 Barão de Vilar White Colheita - but it’s good to hear about the 10yo White. I’ll keep an eye out for that in the UK. Thanks Alex. I didn't know they made a Branco Colheita. I just checked Wine-Searcher and they look like they're only available in Europe. I love white ...

Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022

How did the Barao de Vilar fare? I've never had it - nor heard of it - so am curious. At one point it was going to be tasted side-by-side with the 1989 Palmer to see if they are, in fact, the same Port. It was very pleasant, I scored it 89/100, but my opinion and the group opinion was that there we...

Fonseca's my favorite producer, but the one bottle I tried of this a few years back was somewhat average. I wonder if it was closed? Based on these reviews I think I'm going to pick up a few more bottles and try it again.

Re: 2016 Churchill LBV

I'm starting to think that at least 15 years after harvest is the sweet spot for LBV's. I recently went to an LBV tasting of Quinta do Crasto and the older ones ('06 & '07) fared better than the more recent ones, including the '11, which is always good.

Re: Post-2000s ports for the future

Lots of really good advice on here so far. I'll try not to muck it up. The 80's are definitely good and relatively cheap. I'd go with anythng Graham's in the 80's either the regular VP or the Malvedos. '80 Dow is a killer Port and can be found for under US $100 at auction. A real sleeper IMO are the...

Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022

Over dinner on 16th February I was warned by those in the know that 1985 was 'dirty' vintage and so we should expect rather higher than usual failure rates. Accordingly I am going to suggest we go for sharing 18 different ports and hoping that 14 or 15 of them will be good. I don't recall that many...

I saw the price of the Warre '94 and thought just the same - you have got yourself an absolute steal Mike. If there's more available at the same price, buy it! I wish there was more. I won it at Zachy's London Auction yesterday. I couldn't believe no one had bid on it so I put in a low ball offer a...
