Re: Cellar Defenders without Selos or Labels

I love it! Judging by all the standards but one, it is clearly a fake.

The one standard which redeems it, is that it was properly and fairly priced for what it claims to be.

Re: A market for fakes?

Sadly, vintage Port has been faked for a great many years. Recently there has been a real flood of fakes coming out of Portugal through an auction house, mostly of very old or very high end Port. But people do fake Port, but people do also put their own labels on bottles which have lost or never had...

Re: 1991 Horizontal Tasting - Monday 9th December 2019 - B&F

Everything except the fact that the GC91 is currently residing in the B&F and so the decanting presents a challenge.

However, I shall attempt to find a solution.

Re: The LBV dilemma

I don't general buy Fonseca, Croft, Cockburn, Graham, Taylor, Dow or Warre (red label) LBVs to age. These may say "unfiltered" on the label, but that is not the same as saying "not cold stabilized and fined before bottling". But a decade or two of bottle age does these no harm and nicely rounds off ...

Re: Software that makes placemats

Thank you. Some observations: (1) The short lines at the top overlap and confuse with the text of the instructions. I don't think these short lines add anything so I suggest they are removed. (2) the broken lines around each label are more complex than I had in mind — my thought was simply to put a ...

Tom’s Birthday 1960 Horizontal, Tue 02 June 2020

I'm in, and CMAG has said he is too.

I have a choice of Butler Nephew, de la Rosa, Ferreira, (known to be) Noval, Sibio and (believed to be) Taylor. Happy to contribute one or two from that list.

Re: Leaking Port Bottle - Garrafeira

With a Garrafeira, the date the wine was "bottled" is the year it was transferred from barrel to demi-john. Somewhere you should see the year it was decanted - that's the year it was moved from demi-john to bottle. Any idea which year it was decanted?

Re: Leaking Port Bottle - Garrafeira

If the wine travelled to you by land, it's unlikely that it was bad packing which caused the leaking to start. The cork and wax should be holding the wine in the bottle and if it is has started to leak that is because the cork has started to perish. You shouldn't need to be relying on film around th...
