Re: Thu 19 April 2018: Emergency
It so happens that I am in London on Thursday night, with a committee meeting starting at 17.00 and running until who knows when. I shall ensure that I am properly prepared in case I am free relatively early and can transfer to the B&F. I've also PMed you an alternative in case only you and I are av...

Re: Vintage Port by retailer in London
The Boot & Flogger is selling Quinta da Silveira 10 Year Old tawny and claims Davy's is the exclusive UK distributor and retail outlet.
As I visit the supermarkets over the next few days I will take a look at what they have in stock at the moment.

Re: Tasting
I agree with DRT. While I do try to identify what the wine tastes like, what is more important to me is how enjoyable it is to drink. But I disagree with DRT that a blackberry tastes like a blackberry. Some blackberries are sweet and delicious and I enjoy eating them. Some are small hard and sour an...

Re: Taylor's LBV
We're convinced of the merits of ageing LBV beyond its normal parameters. I have a case or two of Croft 2004 LBV in half bottles that was sold very cheaply in 2009-10 by one of the UK supermarkets. While now starting to show its age, I still enjoy these. In addition, we occasionally come across auct...

Re: Tue 17th April 2018: cellar reduction and health check
Sorry, just seen the requested deadline - been working on the b.f.t. all day today.
My order please - special order bone in sirloin steak (or rib-eye if sirloin not available) with bearnaise sauce and a side of green beans. No starter, no dessert.

Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018
With RLC and KMH unable to attend, we are now 13 ports for 12 people. Despite the heroics of the 1922 Committee last Tuesday and their desperate thirst, are we happy that this is the right number of bottles for a school night? Should we be opening both the Dow and the McKenzie?

Re: Second wind for 1963s? Tuesday 10 April 2018
The telepathy was correct. I can (easily) offer Dow, Mackenzie, Martinez or Sandeman. I could dig something else out of storage if necessary. Is this still an adoptive option? Unfortunately not. I will not be at home between now and Tuesday night. Perhaps Tom might have an S63 you could adopt?

I should also remark that on the handful of occasions when I have drunk Warre 1922 from a bottle in good condition it has been an amazing port.

Thu 13th December - The Port Forum 2018 Xmas Bash
I'd like to propose Thursday 13th of December as the date of our 2018 Port Forum Christmas extravaganza. (This ties in with my Ipswich team Christmas lunch so puts me in the right place at the right time.) I haven't asked Tom yet, but I am hoping that he will kindly agree to host the Christmas offli...

Re: Thu 05 April 2018, THRA’s mystery 1922
Unfortunately I only saw this thread today — and I was actually free last night! Swines: why did no-one email me or text me?
On a separate note, I would prefer to have the Xmas bask on Thursday 13th as I will be on family vacation on Thursday 20th. I'll start a thread to that effect.

Alex. Rather belatedly, do you have 3 bottles you can spare still? Thank you. It looks real to me and I am certain that a "crusted" port was made from the 1958 vintage - this is actually a proper vintage port.

I think this is debateable. I would have said " readers' " but each of the many true stories would have come from a single individual reader. If that was the case, would the use have been acceptable?

Re: Port and literature
Dorothy Sayers again (she clearly liked her Port). In the Lord Peter Wimsey story The Unpleasantness at the Bellona Club he is interrupted by Murbles while drinking Cockburn 1886 and they share several glasses together. Daniel did make a passing reference to this fact but didn’t include it in this t...
