Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

Taylor replaces Kopke: draft of the placemats updated. Decisions are being taken about what Tom is to provide, without the say-so of the organiser, nor of his apparent substitute AHB, nor of Tom. I am not the substitute organiser; I merely stepped in to help a friend who was struggling with time. M...

Re: Tue 11 Jun 2019 — 1994 Mini Horizontal

Christopher is being thoroughly useless at finding the time to update the thread, so I have seized ancient powers and have stepped in to update the list at the top of the thread. However, to be fairer to Christopher, I know he's having a tough time at work at the moment so I'm doing this to help him...

Re: Third time is the charm - History in the making

The comparison with Bordeaux is one which strikes a chord with me. You have some big, reliable and very expensive names which make fabulous wine which are sold at eye-watering prices. I used to be able to afford to occasionally buy first growth Bordeaux but those days are a distant memory. But I do ...

NV Quinta das Lamelas 30YO White (bottled 2017)

In my new found enthusiasm for White Port I have been raiding local (and not so local) retailers and emptying out cupboards where I’ve been hiding things which were not red and bottle matured. This is one such (50cl) bottle. A deep chestnut brown, 50% opaque. Rich beef extract and black treacle on t...

My alternative arrangements are now in place so I will be unable to attend the 1994 tasting. A shame, as I love this vintage.

1985 Taylor

Available from the Oxford & Cambridge Club @ £9 per glass. A lovely mature red, looking very attractive, 90% opaque. Sweet exotic spices and spearmint on the nose. Intense raisin and dates on the palate, rich and beautifully mature with a great depth of flavour. The mint shows strongly on the aftert...

Re: 2017 Vintage Port Tasting Recap with Notes and other information

I’ve now had the opportunity to taste a similar range of Ports from the 2017 vintage. There is no doubt in my mind that this is a fabulous vintage, comparable with 2011 and 1994 although some of the talk has been to compare 2017 with 1945 because of the growing conditions. If true, this really is a ...

Re: NV Kopke 10YO White

There is such a range of styles of White Port. I find more variation in White than I do in Ruby Port. The Kopke whites really work for me and my taste preferences, but that doesn't mean they'll work for everyone. I tend to open a bottle, pour a glass and put the rest of the bottle back into the frid...

Rich

Welcome to the Forum. 2017 does look to be a fabulous vintage - but so was 2011. You've chosen a couple of excellent vintages with which to start collecting.

And your father was born in an excellent (but extremely expensive, today) vintage for Port.

Re: Two Vintage Bottles - The Chairman's and Porto Adriano Ramos-Pinto

Try giving Tennant's Auctioneers a ring. They run wine auction 2-3 times per year and might be willing to include these bottles in their next sale. If they do, you might get a little money from selling them after covering all the auction fees.

Re: Best time to visit Porto/Douro?

It's well worth visiting Oporto at least once in a lifetime for the São João festivities but book a long way ahead if you want a choice of hotel rooms. If you avoid the São João weekend, June is a reasonably quiet month to visit. September is usually a very busy month since that's when the grapes ar...
