Re: Thursday 23 May 2019: Victoria’s 200th

I’m unlikely to arrive before 6pm, but can print on Monday and leave the placemats (and my bottle) on Tuesday, if that helps.

Re: Tue 21st May 2019 - an informal offline

Julian - I plan to bring two bottles; one of them has been from a very variable case so I will have a back-up available, if required.

Please could you update the placemats? I plan to print these on the Tuesday morning.

Re: Tue 21st May 2019 - an informal offline

Please could the provisional attendees let me know if they are still expecting to be able to attend? I want to get the food order in on Friday - although we can always adjust it nearer the time if someone is not able to make the evening.

Thanks.

Re: Tue 21st May 2019 - an informal offline

Hello. If a new bug might be an acceptable additional attendee, I would quite like to attend. However, most of my port is 100 miles away and I cannot access it before this event. The only port I have in town is a minor 25-year-old. I do, however, have some slightly more interesting other-fortified ...

NV Fonseca Bin 27 (bottled 2001)

Bottled in approximately 2001, this produced a considerable amount of sludge when decanted. This tasting note from JDAW: Nose of black pepper and plums. Palate lighter than nose promised. Good length, though still not heavy. Tertiary notes coming through, leather but not smoke. This is not a big Por...

Re: 2000 Fortnum and Mason

I should have said this was decanted approximately 30 minutes before I tasted it.

If anything, with a couple of hours in the glass it became bigger and more brutal than when first poured.

2000 Fortnum and Mason

Purchased on 13th May 2019 from Fortnum & Mason at £20 for a half bottle (and consumed at Hawksmoor Air Street taking advantage of their Monday Night Wine Club corkage rate of £5 per cork. Made for Fortnums by Niepoort, but not known whether this is the same blend as the regular Niepoort Vintage Por...

Yes, this was changed to 25th June. May was too early for many shippers to be ready to send samples.

Instead, I have stolen this date for a casual dinner and drink. Anyone who wants to come to the casual evening should post in this thread

Re: Thursday 23 May 2019: Victoria’s 200th

JDAW seems very insistent that I should bring a bottle of Dow 1878. Sadly I don't have a Dow '78 at home, I drank it at the weekend. Instead I shall bring a bottle of Sandeman 1963, purchased from Victoria Wine.

A date has been set, we will convene on 24th April 2019 to taste, discuss and debate as many 2017 Vintage Ports as producers are willing to provide.

Irayna Dean would like to join us please.

For dinner Irayna would like Smoked Salmon starter; 220g sirloin (medium rare) as main and (normal) Welsh Rarebit for savoury, no dessert.
