I took mine home last night. You received another review this morning. Mrs B said "It looks really professional and the pictures are very pretty."

Re: 1993 - A hunt

I have a godson who was born in 1993. I couldn’t get him a case of port from his birth year but I did get him a case of Tokaji - it is a superb year for Tokaji. There are also some pretty good Australian wines, if my memory serves me well.

If anyone is unable to make it to the Christmas tasting, please say so as soon as you are aware of that fact in order to give people on the waiting list a decent chance of reorganising their schedules to attend. Tom - do you need anything from us in advance? Am I allowed to be radical and have a sma...

Re: Humblebragging here in NY

The October 2019 school break (say weekend of 26-27 October or a day the following week) might work well for me to be in NY. It's a while — maybe 10 years — since I was last there.

Re: Latest buy

Cases of Sandeman 1977 and 1994. Went to an auction to bid on Dow’s 1966 and Warre’s 1970 but these came up first and no one was interested so couldn’t resist. Other two lots went for silly money! Two very nice Ports which don't have the secondary market profile of D66 or W70. You should enjoy the ...

Re: Virtual Tasting?

It was fun and I’d be up for one, but a weekend in January would be better for me than December — unless you particularly wanted to do something over the holidays. But the holidays are always so busy for me with so many family visits and me driving everywhere.

Axel, I hope the event went well and proved really popular with German and other potential buyers of the vintage. I look forward to the days when I am no longer employed by a multinational and have the freedom to travel to Germany (and to book my tickets a long way in advance) to attend both your sh...

Re: The Book, ‘Port Vintages’, is for sale

The author has confessed to finding an error in his copy of The Book. One error in 395,000 words.

I am deeply impressed and look forward enormously to receiving my copy. On Christmas Day I shall be ignoring the family and reading The Book.

Waitrose (or my nearest store, at least) are having something of a sale on at the moment with LBVs. Warre 2004 (rooted behind the 2007s..!) £18 :) A great price for either vintage - I love these with anything up to 40 years of bottle age on them. Three bottles of Taylor 77. Might do one on Christma...

Re: Humblebragging here in NY

I don't have any Dow quite so old, but if you decide to open it — New York or London — I'll pony up a Dow 1908 to go alongside it. I've long wanted to try the 1908 and being paired with the 1896 would be a great way to try it.

PS - if New York would probably need to be late Oct 2019 or after.

Warre is consitently a lovely, lovely Port when mature. I've yet to be disappointed by a mature Warre and often been very pleasantly surprised.

Zak - welcome to the Forum. Experience has shown that the main benefit of TPF for UK based members over FTLOP is that we are a smaller country so manage to get together more often. Please do come and join us for one of our tastings. And congratulations on finding a Port from 1993. There's not much a...

How to spell "Port"

I received a very interesting request today from George Sandeman. As many of you know, George is a figurehead and representative of the wines from the Douro region, especially the fortified wines. One of the ways in which he is working to distinguish the fortified wines from the Douro is to ensure t...
