1998 Fonseca Guimaraens

A bottle that has been in my ‘cellar’ for 5 years or so. Always stored on its side. The cork was completely dried out. It disintegrated and the bottom 1/3 ended up in the bottle. The sediment was very leaf like. The port itself is good. Just beginning to show the slightest element of translucence. Y...

I may be able to swing this one. Consider me heavy pencil with a tbc early next week. Btw, I think you may have confused Cookie & RLC in the first post.

I'm not sure how excited the first 2 surprises left you, but I suspect the 3rd was very gratifying!

Re: It's just not cricket

KP is a topic that always generates much debate. I'm not even sure you could refer to him as marmite as the views don't seem to be split 50/50 in a way that reference infers. That said, I still think he was good business for Surrey on a number of counts. Excuse the link, but this was my view when hi...

Re: A cricket fixture

As promised, my notes from my visit, as written up via my alter ego, BurntBails. https://www.burntbails.com/oporto-cricket-lawn-tennis-club/ What I didn't say in the article, but which has been said to me by the President, is that we would be very welcome to arrange a fixture if we so wished. That a...

Very sad to be leaving Porto this morning but I feel I have made some contribution to the recognition of 10 years of TPF. A big thank you to those who made it possible and who helped make my trip so memorable.

Re: A cricket fixture

I spent a lovely afternoon chatting with the President of OC<C this afternoon. It is a club with an interesting history and a few greats of the game have graced their facilities over the years. Thankfully I can confirm (should the idea ever be resurrected) that enjoyment is their primary objective...

Re: The 10th Birthday, Tuesday 20 June 2017

A quick reminder to those coming to Portugal next week, please don't forget the dress codes are jacket and tie for Wednesday night, black tie (including tambuladeira for members of the Confraria) on Thursday and smart casual for dinner on Friday. With, for those who have, TPF cufflinks (of which th...

Re: Wednesday 24th May - ABV

'For JDAW' and 'For AHB' decanted at 6.15 and returned to bottles with t-stoppers. All is good.

Printing also now done. Any further changes will have to be manually dealt with.

Re: Wednesday 24th May - ABV

I'm going to find it a bit of a challenge to fit with both themes. I may have to ignore the ABV requirement if I am also going to make the "...for ABCD..." requirement. The overarching objective is to drink some interesting port in good company. Don't let rigid observance of the 'theme' distract yo...

Re: Wednesday 24th May - ABV

Blind or sighted? Or a variant. Bottles blind. But each person is to declare for whom the bottle is brought. For example, I have a bottle that I have been saving for BMHR. So that would be “JDAW (for BMHR)”. Would people willing to play with a theme of “Blind, For Somebody”? I take that question to...

Ben Although Luke says we could fit 8 in the room, for us with our glass requirement I would strongly suggest no more than 6. CPR said to me Tuesday that he would probably be available. Hi Ben
I would be interested in attending - I have a visitor (who is actually a member of the forum) who would also like to attend.
Two spaces at the table allocated. Can you confirm the identity of your visitor and I will try and produce place mats.

Wednesday 24th May - ABV

I have taken the liberty of booking a table at the Boot & Flogger as AHB and I are both in town and likely to be thirsty next Wednesday! The only space available is the 'Private Room', which AHB advises would not suit more than 6 people for a TPF event. We're full (assuming JDAW gets permission...) ...
