Re: Sherry Tasting with Sarah Jane Evans MW

I saw your adverts for this on Twitter and was very impressed with the selection (and the price!). My main problem is working out a bottle of Port that costs c.£31 to add to the order... Stop worrying about how you get over the free delivery threshold and order one of the Quevedo tasting packs stil...

Re: Virtual Tasting #5, Weds 20 May

Hmm... a 5-hour decant for an 11:00 am tasting... my LBV will not be decanted on time! It will probably have to make do with 3 hours of decant time, but since it isn't a 2015 Sandeman or a(ny) Warre, that probably doesn't matter. Should I reveal or do you wish to guess? Am I right in thinking most ...

Re: Virtual Tasting #5, Weds 20 May

A warre lbv of any vintage? We can compare ageing and look for common themes. I’ve found 2014 at £12/bottle and wondering about buying some!

Re: Sunday May 3rd - my 60th birthday..

10 year's to the day before a friend of mine turning 50 tomorrow. Not really the birthday's any of us planned - my 50th was 26th March. We were all still in shock then! I'm deferring to later this year or next now and going to try and do some of the things I had planned. Amongst them was a trip to P...

Re: Churchill's Port tastings in May (with link to kits)

I found Churchills fine. quinta de la Rosa was awful - PayPal payment was the only data I was asked for. No idea if order actually placed or coming!

Port, cricket, the British Army & Navy...

This little anecdote was in an email I received from the MCC this morning. It describes everything that is great about cricket & port! My naval career gave me many wonderful opportunities to play cricket in most of the Test-playing countries including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the West I...

Re: Virtual tasting #4, Thursday 30 April

#4 was my first virtual tasting. The format worked much better than I expected. The hats were entertaining. Perhaps a dress code should be part of the theme next time? I love the idea of an ‘event’ like this where we all taste the same wine if that can be arranged. I was intrigued by those trying to...

Re: Virtual tasting #4, Thursday 30 April

Red brown colour. Clean decant – no sediment in the glass. Just able to see through the glass. Young – smells younger than I expect or the eye leads me to expect. Not very obvious on the nose, bit no obvious faults either, albeit a very slight stewed note. not much tannin. Possibly slightly too acid...

Re: Wed 25th or Thursday 26th March

If it was 25th March I'd make a very strong case to be allowed out and use it as an excuse to drink something from 1970! 26th I would not be allowed out. Ben

I feel like I should take a lead on this given my specific interest in 1970 and the fact it is a significant year for me too!

Port: I'm sure Queen Victoria had many surprises for her people in her reign. So I have one for us! It is a bottle sold to me by Seckford as 'unknown port'. It might be Noval 1960. It might not. Regrettably, I just can't find the bottle of 1878 I was sure I had! It appears to be Quinta do Noval 196...
