Re: Lisbon

Time Out market for casual dining, drinking and possibly even dancing. If you don’t know of it, it’s a bit like Spitalfields now is but more covered and with communal tables such that you can each eat from a different caterer. We loved it, as did the boys who had burgers to our Portuguese options. I...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Re: David Gower rewarded with fine Vintage Port

How about a theme of Port from years we won the Ashes. It has the added bonus that there are two calendar years in an away series. And if anyone can find a way of working a bi-plane reference into the theme, how could he resist?

Porto recommendations for a friend

A friend of mine is about to visit Porto and would like some current recomendations on restaurants. Not michelin starred, just good eating. Plus anything else local and interesting such as markets etc. It's nearly 6 years since I was there, so more recent advice much appreciated. I've shared this li...

Re: Cavadinha, Tue 28th March 2023, B&F

Could I order the following please:
Duck liver pate
Sirloi steak (medium rare) with fries and peppercorn sauce

I am afraid I have no Cavadinha at all, so my contribution will need to be financial.

Tuesday 27th September - Emergency

Attending tastings for me remains complicated - normally! Next week, I have to be in London on Tuesday 27th September. Mrs Read does not have to be in London. Is anyone interested in a short notice 'bring a bottle to share' type gathering? I've made no enquiry about venue availability - Boot & F...

Re: Port and smoked brisket - Texas style

In the end I had chilled Quinta de la Rosa tawny. It paired quite nicely. I’m still experimenting with smoking. I gave it 12 hours, of which it was wrapped for about 5. But I think I gave it too much smoke. I use charcoal with wood chips. I need to try’s different approach with the fuel and smoke. S...

If it involves tasting the GM86 v. GM87 I'm available! I still recall the debate about these two at the Malvedos vertical in 2010. I think both were (or very close to) podium finishes that night.

Port and smoked brisket - Texas style

I’m hoping Mr Tawny May stop by here and offer some advice as he is well experienced in the matter of (competition) bbq. My question is what should I drink (port wise) with Texas style brisket? To add to the background info it’s a warm day I’m the U.K. I was thinking perhaps a slightly chilled Speci...

Re: Aged LBVs - Thu 23 June @ B&F

Ordinarily I would be very keen on this. Regrettably the date clashes with ‘New parents evening’ at our youngest child’s new school. Non attendance is not an option. And I have a 1971 magnum of LBV that would have been ideal!
