Re: 19th of August in the UK? - Cancellation

I am afraid I have to cancel, plans have changed...

Alex and Jacob thank you for your possitive response, and hopefully I'll be able to visit a PortForum tasting in my next UK visit...

Re: 19th of August in the UK?

It would be great meeting you and London is perfect for us. I don't have special preferences for a theme. Any suggestions? I should ask my friend as well... I don't have a real large collection of ports and almost all of it is not yet 20 years old. Main houses present are: Fonseca and Taylor, but I ...

Re: 2005 Fonseca

Alex,

It was from my cellar and it was the Guimaraens!
And I am quite sure you saw it opened, because you were there when we opened it in the afternoon! But you are excused because of the heat :)

Re: Summer offline in The Netherlands - 9 July 2010

Hi Axel,

That sounds really great! You're really filling the gaps... Now we have almost have the last 40 years of Fonseca complete, what are we still missing and can we complete?
I think Fonseca 1980 and 2007?

Re: Summer offline in The Netherlands - 9 July 2010

Hi Julian,

The placemets tasting forms look great.

Some small comments:
- HermanG attends with a FG84
- No translation to Dutch necessary, please keep it in English!
- Can you reserve 2 places for 'Mystery Ports'

Furthermore I think everything is great!!!

Re: Dow's 2007 Vintage - 100 PTS Wine Spectator

I found Dow VP 2007 in the Gall&Gall of all places!!! (This is the largest chain of winestores, but only selling wines under 10/15€ usually)
They sell it for 60€, but I managed to get a 10% discounts... So thats 54 €...

Re: Summer offline in The Netherlands?

2 wine-friends, with some special interest in Port, are interested as well in this tasting... Their attendancy can be classified as 'likely' at this stage and their names are Jeroen and Thijs... Santé, Joost Is that the Jeroen that I know? And I presume that that's Thijs van Leer, in which case a y...

Re: Summer offline in The Netherlands?

I think Sandra will try some of the Ports as well, after not really drinking for 2,5 years. So she would like to attend as well... In my opinion the theme doesn't have to be a single year! Maybe we can get together a 'matrix'-tasting, 4 years and 4 houses? I do not have that much 'old' bottles, only...

Re: Niepoort "10years old white"

Price seems to be equal to the 10year old tawny. By the way, this 10 year old white doesn't mention the word 'tawny' and of course it doesn't have a tawny colour... Second day still lots of white chocolate, hardly nothing more than that... I suppose they were thinking it was like most "normal&q...

Re: Niepoort "10years old white"

Opened it yesterday. I fully agree it could have some more complexity. I also agree it is much too expansive (I paid 30€)... In the wineshop where I bought it, they told me it was not that sweet, but after tasting I can't agree!!! It was really sweet... It tasted like a juice of white chocolate! The...

Niepoort "10years old white"

Hi all, It's been a long time since I wrote on this forum, sorry for that. But at least I have been reading once in a while... I was looking for a nice Port to drink 'one glass a night' for a week or so and usually I like tawny ports for this purpose. So looking for a nice tawny I found a bottle of ...

Re: Decanting advice Fonseca 1985

Opened the bottle about an hour before leaving. Had some problems with the cork ,it wouldn't come out!!!!

But the wine triple decanted (at arrival decanted in the final caraffe) showed up really great. Everybody liked it, and for most it was the best Port ever!!!

Decanting advice Fonseca 1985

For a wine tasting next weekend I planned to bring a bottle of Fonseca 1985. The tasters are not really that Port minded, so I like this port to perform as good as possible. But I should travel (30 min) with the bottle 5 hours in advance of the taste moment... Under assumption that it is not possibl...

Uncle Tom, I met the author a month ago, when he organised a CDP-tasting with about 150 different CDP's including most of the top-cuvées. Very professionally orgnaised, while it was just for wine-lovers... He is really passionated and I am very sure his book will be the reference for Chateauneuf. It...

Thank you all for being there... It took some days to recover :? but now everything is back to normal again.
