Re: Sell collection

If someone has offered you 80% of retail, take it. You won't do any better in a private sale here in the states.

Re: Port for sale by retailer

My local Tesco has just stocked its shelves with the new Tesco Finest Vintage Port, this one is also from the Symingtons but is now the 2007 vintage. Still £20 a bottle (at full price). Next to it is the Malvedos 2004, currently reduced from £27.50 to also be £20 per bottle. 2004 Malvedos is very g...

Bummer, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose with older bottles. but one never never knows until they try. Thanks for the update.

2003 Graham's First Flight Colheita Port

Tonight I finally opened my bottle. Bottled in 2017. Bought at Frankfurt airport in October 2018 for, IIRC, 35 Euros. The color is a medium/light ruby-tea color. A bit of a waxy and baked plum nose. The palate started out somewhat thick and lacking in acidity with a dominate flavor of baked plums. T...

Re: Help with unlabeled bottle

It appears to have a T-cork (see the serrated sides on the top). If so, this would be a cheaper Port. Something like an LBV or Ruby Reserve, etc. Depending on how it was stored, it may still be at least decent. Hope for the best when you open it but prepare for the worst with a backup bottle at the ...

In early October I bought a bottle during my layover at Frankfurt airport. Haven’t opened it yet. Will post a note when I do (sometime soon).

Re: Vintages after 2000

No such thing as a silly question when it comes to Port. Not so much rules, the overall quality of the "brandy" used for top end Ports has gone up considerably over the years. The short version is back in the old days a producer had to buy it from the IVP (now called IVDP). As one can imagine when y...

Just don’t buy it from this place in Porto. The price tag washed out with the flash but it reads 999 Euros!

Welcome to the TPF as well. Both are excellent forums, obviously living in England makes it easier to meet regularly than the states. This a great bunch of guys and gals to get to know and share some Port with.

Re: Real Vinicola 1931 and Real Companhia Velha 1957

Thanks Andy and DRT. @DRT I'm pretty sure the bottles are genuine as the owner worked on RCV for a lot of years. @Andy Unfortunally i don't have more pics, but i can ask for. But you think the bottle is not genunine? Br's, Nuno. I will simply say way too many fakes of old Port have been showing up ...

I am a bit concerned as the 1931 appears to have a very poorly spray painted job. More scrutiny is required, IMO.

Re: 2016 Declarations

Semantics. Yes it’s a VP, so it has to follow those rules. To be called a “Quinta...” it has to adhere to more rules. For example, Quinta do Noval VP and Noval Silval VP can be declared in the same year. One is technically a VP from a single Quinta and one isn’t. They adhere to similar but also dif...

Re: 2016 Declarations

To be accurate, most VP's don't come from just one Quinta. Even "SQVP's", by law, can have a small amount from other Quinta's and still be called a SQVP. Are there rules for SQVP? I thought that SQVP is not at all regulated by the law nor IVDP? Legally it is a Vintage Port, everything else is just ...

Re: Brooks Royal Coronation Vintage Port 1878

No I haven’t. It’s a Tawny from what I can tell. But three bottles, bottled after the Selo came to exist based on bottle, without Selo is a major red flag. They could be legit but I’d do some serious scrutiny of the bottles first.

In gathering information about a new Port name little seen this side of the Atlantic — Broadbent — a tasting was kindly offered. And accepted. One bottle of each of Bb00, Bb03, Bb07, Bb11 and Bb15 are to be sent to me. When? Bart Broadbent is a friend. Dirk makes the ports for him. I assume he’s br...
