Re: Vintages after 2000

No such thing as a silly question when it comes to Port. Not so much rules, the overall quality of the "brandy" used for top end Ports has gone up considerably over the years. The short version is back in the old days a producer had to buy it from the IVP (now called IVDP). As one can imagine when y...

Just don’t buy it from this place in Porto. The price tag washed out with the flash but it reads 999 Euros!

Welcome to the TPF as well. Both are excellent forums, obviously living in England makes it easier to meet regularly than the states. This a great bunch of guys and gals to get to know and share some Port with.

I would need some advanced notice and if work complies, I haven’t been to NY in ages.

Re: Real Vinicola 1931 and Real Companhia Velha 1957

Thanks Andy and DRT. @DRT I'm pretty sure the bottles are genuine as the owner worked on RCV for a lot of years. @Andy Unfortunally i don't have more pics, but i can ask for. But you think the bottle is not genunine? Br's, Nuno. I will simply say way too many fakes of old Port have been showing up ...

Get more pics please.

I am a bit concerned as the 1931 appears to have a very poorly spray painted job. More scrutiny is required, IMO.

Re: 2016 Declarations

Semantics. Yes it’s a VP, so it has to follow those rules. To be called a “Quinta...” it has to adhere to more rules. For example, Quinta do Noval VP and Noval Silval VP can be declared in the same year. One is technically a VP from a single Quinta and one isn’t. They adhere to similar but also dif...

Re: 2016 Declarations

To be accurate, most VP's don't come from just one Quinta. Even "SQVP's", by law, can have a small amount from other Quinta's and still be called a SQVP. Are there rules for SQVP? I thought that SQVP is not at all regulated by the law nor IVDP? Legally it is a Vintage Port, everything else is just ...

Careful.. - we might have euthanasia on demand by then.

Mind you - you'll only be a sprightly 78 - which used to be a record..

I’ve never seen that bottle used prior to late 1960’s. I’ll have to research the New York importer.

Re: Brooks Royal Coronation Vintage Port 1878

No I haven’t. It’s a Tawny from what I can tell. But three bottles, bottled after the Selo came to exist based on bottle, without Selo is a major red flag. They could be legit but I’d do some serious scrutiny of the bottles first.

Re: Broadbent Port

In gathering information about a new Port name little seen this side of the Atlantic — Broadbent — a tasting was kindly offered. And accepted. One bottle of each of Bb00, Bb03, Bb07, Bb11 and Bb15 are to be sent to me. When? Bart Broadbent is a friend. Dirk makes the ports for him. I assume he’s br...

Re: Bottle Watch

I can say as of about 2 weeks ago I am now in possession of a 1973 Port. A gift from a Port producer. No idea where this person found it but we opened one and we tried it and I was also given an unopened bottle for me to take home for a later bday. Very thoughtful and nice of the person. It's a 1973...

I think we should celebrate the launch of the book with an offline. I will choose a date and start a thread to that effect. Keep an eye on the events forum later this weekend... Perhaps just after everyone get's their copy so it could be a "Book signing by the Author" event as well. You could requi...

Re: The Book, ‘Port Vintages’, is for sale

My order also already in. But do I order a second copy, one which can be signed by the author... My dilemma as well... I ordered two so one I can read and one I can keep in new condition. With the hope that one day when I’m old I can pass it on to a deserving younger Port lover. Sent from my iPhone...

Re: Benchmark got a load of port

Their pricing is horrible 98% of the time. Massive mark ups. As for these lots. I’d assume it’s all from the same person for the ports. If so, look at how many leakers there are. Obviously poor storage which is a real shame. I got the email and the poor descriptions were a huge turn off. Sent from m...

Re: Vintage countdown 2018

It's getting extremely hot out there.. - most quintas will probably see highs of over 40C today. Whilst a good burst of heat for a few days is a recurrent theme of great vintages, I wonder when 'hot' becomes 'too hot' for the vines? .... Depends on the type of grape vine. However, generally speakin...

Thank you... Do you know how to sell it in US? The states are complicated as every state has different laws and shipping wine as a private person is even more difficult (as in if you ship it illegally they confiscate it and destroy it if they find it). Add in no shipping until at least October too ...
