Re: Virtual Tasting #7, Tuesday 16 June 2020

Mike, thanks again for all your efforts to keep me on board. Hopefully the issue with my iPhone won't reoccur as I was getting a better reception. Another enjoyable night of port and I'm beginning to get people's interes in Warres. In case anyone is interested tomorrow night Powerscourt Distillery i...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

I go out shopping once every two weeks, thanks for your concern Derek, it’s touching, I find the wheels on the Zimmer frame seize up if not moved on a regular basis. Am saving up for one of those turbo mobility scooters😊Btw on a serious note M&S is the only store without a queue; no patience am turn...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Another six M&S 2011 in another M&S store. I hope I’m not being sexist but it seem to me that the vast majority of people out shopping are women. Does this mean that women are not interested in VP at €9 a bottle?

Re: Port for sale by retailer

M&S Dublin 5 bottles of VP 2011 @ €9.00 per bottle, must have been hidden down the back. Only shopping once every 10 days so that brightened up my day🍷☺️

Re: Another virtual tasting

Thanks Mike and Simon, it was such a good night of port drinking and cheese eating. I had originally thought I’d be done and dusted at 9.00pm after a hard day in the garden and then realised it was after 11.00pm! I also enjoyed the post port discussion on Chateau Musar, being a fan sine the late 80’...

Re: Port for sale by retailer

Well the good news is that, finally, M & S have extended the sale to Dublin stores. Unfortunately Martin Moran MW (writes in Irish Times) tipped off his buddies and they triolleyed out quantities of 2007, 2011 and Q da C. Stilll got 4 2011’s (now have a bottle for the 2051 tasting) and 2 20 year old...

Re: Unidentified port

Derek, the IGB stands for Irish Glass Bottle Co. All Irish bottlings used this as it was the only indigenous bottle manufacturer. I have some almost identical bottles (Croft 1950, Cockburns 1955 after that they dropped the Roman numerals.

I have been asked to rephrase my earlier post. So here goes: I think you’ve got a cheek considering the time and effort members of this forum took in answering your query. Perhaps on reflection you might reconsider your remarks.

Re: Unidentified port

I’ve looked at my Irish bottlings and I’d say an IGB (iris Glass Bottles) bottle from late 40’s to mid 50’s. the L might signify a 1948 port or a late bottled 47. Taylor’s , , Dow’s or Cockburn’s being the likely candidates.
