Re: Port for sale by retailer
Well the good news is that, finally, M & S have extended the sale to Dublin stores. Unfortunately Martin Moran MW (writes in Irish Times) tipped off his buddies and they triolleyed out quantities of 2007, 2011 and Q da C. Stilll got 4 2011’s (now have a bottle for the 2051 tasting) and 2 20 year old...

Re: Unidentified port
Derek, the IGB stands for Irish Glass Bottle Co. All Irish bottlings used this as it was the only indigenous bottle manufacturer. I have some almost identical bottles (Croft 1950, Cockburns 1955 after that they dropped the Roman numerals.

I have been asked to rephrase my earlier post. So here goes: I think you’ve got a cheek considering the time and effort members of this forum took in answering your query. Perhaps on reflection you might reconsider your remarks.

Re: Unidentified port
I’ve looked at my Irish bottlings and I’d say an IGB (iris Glass Bottles) bottle from late 40’s to mid 50’s. the L might signify a 1948 port or a late bottled 47. Taylor’s , , Dow’s or Cockburn’s being the likely candidates.

Re: Unidentified port
Gallwey were wine and spirit merchants in Waterford city (Ireland). They tended to only bottle the premium shippers so sorry looks as if you may have missed a bargain. How much did they go for and where was the auction?

Re: 2011 Horizontal - London, Sunday 23rd April 2051
Getting worried now, still not on the reserve list. Paranoia is setting in, maybe this is only open to members of the New British Empire (MNBE’s) created in 2028 after the war in Europe (NBE won as Europe couldn’t agree on a defence strategy). Despite me acquiring a dodgy bottle of Nacional from a d...

Re: Sell collection
That’s a great offer someone has made to you. If you know the person then go for it as you are confident about the condition etc. You are getting a great deal but Sonia he/she (no commissions). I buy most of my port at auction, mostly seen and examined, and most have worked out at about half retail,...

Now gone to a good home. Nice to know a port lover is the new owner. Only disappointment was that despite removing the foil on the La Mission we couldn’t establish the year. We do know, however, by the scrap of label left that it is definitely pre 1983 and possibly as early as mid 1960’s.

Not port!
Evening all, I was forced to by some claret that was included in a lot with some port and I was wondering if any of you would have an interest. There are three bottles: Ch. Beycheville 1966, Ch. Chasse Spleen 1982 and a bottle of Ch. Mission Haut Brion of unknown vintage as label is damaged. All lev...

Cases of Sandeman 1977 and 1994. Went to an auction to bid on Dow’s 1966 and Warre’s 1970 but these came up first and no one was interested so couldn’t resist. Other two lots went for silly money!

Please put me on the reserve list. It will be my 90th birthday that day so will have to celebrate the day before. I don’t have any 2011’s so will have to adopt.

Julian,
Arthur Colley was brought up a couple of km from me and last time I looked I lived in Ireland so as we were part of the British empire at the time it’s fair to claim the victory as a joint effort
