Re: Cantillon Geuze
Last weekend I had the opportunity to purchase the Lambic beer und the Geuze beer from Lindemans. If i understand correctly, Lambic is the young beer and Geuze is made of Lambic beers from different years with additional maturing. Date of expiry, even for the Lambic, was 09/2011! Both are pretty unu...

Thanks for the note, Alex. Good to know it shows that promising. Recently I purchased 6 bottles.

A simply delicious Pils I had recently is this one. Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle. It's from the Black Forest. "Tannenzäpfle" is Swabian and means fir cone. http://www.rothaus.de/img/02biere/02_tannenz_175.JPG http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:TpnRPDC3HF6yTM:http://ihr-getraenke-kurier.esho...

In 2006 I talked about 2003 Niepoort VP with Dirk van der Niepoort at Prowein. He said this one would go perhaps for 100.

Andy, what's that liquid in the glass? Is it matured Pink Port? Will one look like this man after weeks of abuse?

I often use a glass for white wine. It's Weissweinkelch series VINO GRANDE from Spiegelau. http://www.amazon.de/Spiegelau-Wei%C3%9Fweinkelch-Vino-Grande/dp/B001IILG2O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1251804531&sr=1-1 I'd say this one looks like a pipe. http://www.amazon.com/Oenophilia-P...

Hi Nick, welcome aboard! Hard to fine a good wine at the german discount shops. One rare exception is the Champagne "Veuve Monsigny" from Aldi. At 14,00 EUR a decent one. If there is Aldi in your area try to find the chocolate "Moser-Roth Edel Bitter, 70% Kakao (respectively 85% Kakao...

Re: No passionate Whisky thread here?
Glen, I am not whisky geek at all because my knowledge and experience is rather limited. However I am interested in that concern and I occasionally I love that stuff- power and complexity. I remember a holiday in Burgundy. At the face normally one would go for the local wine. But one day there was t...

Re: No passionate Whisky thread here?
Interesting, Alex. Highland Park 12 yo sounds delicious. There are also some Whisky boards in this country and many geeks seem to feel for this Single Malt. At 34 EUR (1,0l) available what seems to be a decent price. Unfortunately Lagavulin is more than 40 EUR the normal bottle in Germany and even i...

No passionate Whisky thread here?
Your're talking a lot about beer although best beer is made in Germany and in the Czech Republic. But there is no real passionate whisky thread.   What's the reason? You are having it with your daily cereal so this matter is boring too much? Your representatives did all order o...

Re: In desperate need of a daily sipper
As I mentioned 3 bottles of 1995 SW LBV on the way to me. I got them on Wednesday and got (as usual) the victim of my own greedyness. A small aspect was to check at once the cork as to a decission of stocking up. So I decanted half bottle and pulled the other half into a 0,375l bottle for the next d...

2007 Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt,Scharzhofberger Riesling
Kabinett Feinherb. Hey, what a name for something to drink :) . Reichsgraf von Kesselstatt is not one of the top names at Mosel-Saar-Ruwer but upper middle-sized class, I'd say. Feinherb means not dry and not sweet. I think you call it "off dry". But it is certainly more in the direction o...

Re: Port and something TO EAT
Perhaps goat cheese (I do like it very much with Beaujolais Cru or Sauvignon Blanc from Loire valley) is generally not perfect with Port because of the dryness of goat cheese. Perhaps a Dry White Port would match best, e.g. Niepoort Dry White (one can drink easily too much of this one, yummy). But I...

This obviously does not count for 1997. I'd say it will rather peak in 10-15 years. However I will not touch my bottles for some years.SushiNorth wrote: We were picking up magnums of the 97... . ...it's good to know they should be drunk in 5-7 years, not 20.

Re: NV Warre's Warrior Port Wine Reserve
Am I right in thinking that Warre’s Warrior is one of the oldest brands of Ruby Port? (Which might excuse the horse). Is there much difference between ‟tawny-style” ruby reserves and ruby-style ones? It's a brand since 1750 http://www.warre.com/conteudos.asp?content=32&title=Warrior . Id did n...

Re: In desperate need of a daily sipper
1995 Warre Cavadinha VP is too far from its peak so as to provide full pleasure. It would not be my choice. Hence the LBVs remain. I propose to drink 1995 Smith Woodhouse LBV. It should be fully mature and I don't want to conceal that I would be particulary interested in an update of your impression...

NV Warre's Warrior Port Wine Reserve
I do know that this is not an overly exciting matter. I had so far several Reserve Rubies. Some of them like the Ramos Pinto Collector, Graham's Six Grapes or the Ferreira Dona Antonia I do really like. But LBV or Crusted Port do often offer a far better QPR. This Warre was however for less than 8 E...

Port and something TO EAT
Imo there is no need to puzzle out what to eat with Port. I normally do like Port on its own. But recently I had a Kletzenbread with Cambozola cheese respectively Rooijackers Overijssel cheese and I found it to be very tasty with a glass of Tawny. I found the contrast of the rather sweet (but not cl...
