Re: Sainsbury Offer
And again, 'til the 7th. Without wishing to sound like I'm in Sainsbury's advertising, it means that: Graham Q.d. Malvedos £19.25, Graham Crusted £9.35, BOB Vintage 2004 £11.24 (I think), Taylor LBV £7.49, Cockburn LBV £6.00, Taylor 10 y.o. Tawny £11.47. Also, Taittinger NV £17.99, Lanson Black Labe...

Re: 2005 Croft Late Bottled Vintage port
I concur that this has a lot to it, and that the 2004 is better rounded.

2004 Sainsbury
2004 Quinta do Crasto (Sainsbury TTD) 4 days after decanting. Quite a fresh nose, damsons, fennel and peppermint. Rich and spicy, but perhaps starting to close up. Great acidity, and very tannic. Finish has a little length, but could be longer. Not complaining, however! Perhaps its youth makes this...

Re: Taylors Scion
Returning to Derek's point (if I may), the point of this is the romantic story behind the wine, and the packaging. Those with that kind of cash will view it as a rather nice display item or gift, and drink it by tasting the imagination that goes with 150+ years of age, rather than by the wine alone.

Re: Big Yellow Wine Storage
Thus far (er, 2 months!) I have little complaint with Big Yellow. Comparatively expensive, yes. The security and convenience is very good (access from 05.00 to 23.00) especially if, as Alex says, you don't have a cellar (a rather tricky proposition when you live in a flat).

NV Taylor Tawny 10YO (bottled 2009)
NV Taylor 10 Years Old Tawny Port From a 50cl bottle; bottled 2009. Served cool, about 12C I think. Pale red/brown colour. Quite light, dried fruit, sticky Christmas pud, marzipan, raisins and peel. It benefits from being cooler than R.T.; very sweet but with plenty of acidity to balance. A long li...

1977 Grahams Vintage Port
Opened on the occasion a 70's themed birthday party a couple of weeks ago. From memory - Mature red colour. Cherries and strawberries, and very sweet - one could almost feel the sugar on the tongue. Really long finish. Showed better immediately upon opening than after 30 hours, quite the opposite to...

2003 Ramos Pinto LBV (unfiltered)
Dark and opaque. Some herbs, damsons and chocolate but a difficult wine as it seems fairly closed up. Hugely tannic, too. Ought to be good in a few years time.

Re: 1999 Chateau Musar
Took a 53 mile return cycling trip from south London as far as Copthorne, near Crawley, on Sunday. The smell of the air from fields of cattle reminded me of a '95 Musar tasted earlier this year. Curious how one pastime can remind one of another that is completely unrelated.

2004 Quinta do Infantado Vintage Porto
Bought as L.B.V., but is V.P. (or S.Q.V.P.). Seems to be the wrong bottles in the case, ah well, never mind. D+0 Decanted, with some fine chunks of sediment. Dark and opaque. Fresh nose of cherries, damsons and a huge amount of herbs. Strong herbal flavours in the mouth too, and a chewy tannic strea...

Re: 2004 Quinta do Infantado vintage port
I ordered the 2004 L.B.V. but upon receipt the label says "Vintage 2004" (as with this picture but with 2004 instead of 2007): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xqO5XifqQu4/TDZIiJS5oiI/AAAAAAAAAJA/WNhT4ZLmOng/s1600/Quinta+do+Infantado+Vintage+2007.jpg Also it was bottled in May 2007, rather than 2...

2010 Sloe Berry harvest report
A recent trip of four of us to Pollard's Hill, Norbury, London S.W. realised a harvest of 32lb of sloe berries - a record harvest (last year's was half that amount I believe). They were perhaps picked slightly early in the season as many were barely ripe; however ripe berries were still plentiful. I...

1987 Delaforce Quinta Da Corte Single Quinta Vintage Port
A modest wine opened on the occasion of obtaining a modest promotion at work. After 2 hours decant time: Mature red colour, transparent with browning rim (ooh er). Very rich nose of smoke, figs and marzipan. Quite sweet, rich, with a well placed dose of heat. Long finish of almonds and cherries. Ver...

Re: 2004 Taylor LBV
To elaborate on "yum": dark ruby red, with a wonderful enticing nose of mint, fennel, plums. Fruity and sweet with a lovely acidic tang, firm tannins, slightly light with medium finish. Very reasonable port for the sum paid (£10).

From a half bottle. Bottled by Symington Family Estates, and credits Antonio Serodio (I think- it's written as a signature) as Winemaker. Dark red and opaque. Very young nose of herbs and black cherries. Quite dry in the mouth, with some herbs and chocolate, but the finish is very short with acidity...
