Heritage Auctions

I have listed the balance of my port collection and a few sauternes with Heritage Auctions. If anyone is interested in browsing the auction listings and perhaps bidding, here is the link. You can view and bid on my entire consignment in the Wine Showcase Auction #24161 at the following link: https:/...

1970 Graham, Wine Society Bottling versus Oporto Bottling

Does anyone have experience tasting both of these bottlings? Is the Wine Society bottling generally inferior to the Oporto bottling? Full disclosure, I am auctioning of some of both bottlings and the auction house is concerned that the Wine Society bottling is markedly inferior.

Port in Storage at Horseridge Cellars

I am selling off most of my collection, which I built over the 1990s and early 2000s. I have a wide variety of cases available, all in storage at Horseridge Cellars in Connecticut. Most are vintage ports but there are some LBVs and even a little bit of crusted port. If you are interested, please con...

Port Collection for Sale

I find myself drinking less and less port. I have approximately 1000 bottles professionally stored at Horseridge Cellars in Connecticut. I am not interested in selling bits and bobs out of the collection. I am interested in shifting the lot. Most (but not all) of the bottles are VP. There are not a ...

Re: Lifting the chill of January in NY (5pm, Sat 8 Jan 2011)

It sounds like a terrific party but not really a port tasting.

I am going to sit this one out.

Re: Lifting the chill of January in NY (5pm, Sat 8 Jan 2011)

I am getting confused. Rather than the total number of attendees, which is relevant to Jeff in terms of dinner and how many folks he can fit, can we instead list folks who are attending for the purpose of tasting port? That will allow us to see if we are quorate for a port tasting and to see how man...

Re: Lifting the chill of January in NY (5pm, Sat 8 Jan 2011)

It would help me in deciding whether to attend to understand what is happening. Is this a port tasting? A dinner with wine, including some port? I appreciate the generosity of Jeff's hosting a dinner but I have to admit that what interests me is a port tasting. Obviously, whatever the majority of fo...

I could supply 1992 Niepoort VP and 1992 Niepoort LBV for one of the matchings. (Corrected from 1991).

Re: Lifting the chill of January in NY (Sat 8 Jan 2011)

Perhaps we can at least link the lbvs and the vps. In other words, a Warre's lbv and a Warre's vp. The lbvs and vps will not necessarily be the same years but at least we can see if there is some house consistency in style. I can't imagine how many combos Julian might be able to handle on his own; f...

Re: Lifting the chill of January in NY (9 Jan 2011)

If Julian is attending, how can I miss this?

I certainly don't mind a LBV tasting but perhaps we could up our game in honor of our surprise guest.

Re: Julian Farewell, at least for now

Thank you all for trying to accomodate me. But I am withdrawing completely. You should decide on what date suits other folks.

I have a trial to prepare for during the first half of July and don't have time or energy for a tasting.

Re: Julian Farewell, at least for now

I am afraid that, having started this thread, I am going to have to withdraw. I will be away that weekend.

I am sorry to miss Julian's official send off. My apologies to all.

I will not be sure whether I can attend until the last minute; therefore, I am withdrawing from the tasting. If I am free and there is still a spot available, I will jump in. Otherwise, please do not count on me.

Re: 1977 horizontal in New York: version 2

I think that we are trying to drink up Julian's port so it behooves us to do so. On the other hand, if too few folks volunteer their livers, then it could make sense to limit the tasting to more unusual houses.

Julian Farewell, at least for now

Julian and family will be leaving NYC for Paris in July. We should have a farewell. I propose a port dinner for the weekend of July 9, either Friday or Saturday. I don't know that any theme other than good port makes sense so I propose that we all bring a bottle of our current favorite port. In my c...

I am happy to loan my two boxes (71 glasses in total). Someone should pick these up before the day of the tasting so that the "cardboard" stink can be washed off.

Congratulations!! Now Julian has to find a pipe to lay down--let's hope there is a 2009 declaration so that it doesn't have to be a single quinta.

Or you could say, Julian and five other people.

If this were some other night than either April 17 or 18, such as April 19, I would be happy to join and drink what little Julian leaves.
