Re: Wed 30 Nov 2022, The Software’s 20th Anniversary

I've been pinged :) Very sorry, I can't make this event. I'm sure it will be fabulous. Happy Birthday to the Software. Will there be cake?

Re: Port Vintages, Second Edition

The first edition was fantastic, and on reading the email, I'm quite certain that the second edition will be even better. Looking forward to getting my hands on it. Many thanks to Mr (Dr, clearly worthy of a PhD) Wiseman for such a fabulous book.

Sadly, I can no longer come to this tasting. It looks interesting, I like TTF, I'm sorry to have to miss it. Hope it goes well.

Re: Pork Pie and Branston Pickle

Sandwiches, yes, good idea. Or perhaps pork pie soldiers dipped into a pot of whizzed up pickle. But the pastry might fall off, so you might have to further deconstruct the pie. And perhaps you like the texture as well as the flavour of pickle, so a complete non starter. And also, the pot might fill...

That is Susanna's birthday. I expect she would like to come too. Charles will be getting on a bit. Fingers crossed.

Good idea. Yes please. She also likes, I understand, Dubonnet. She has a good chance of making it, I think.

Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022

I'm very sorry, but I have to withdraw from this tasting. I got Covid (again) nearly two weeks ago and my sense of taste has gone (again). Wine doesn't taste weird this time, but I only get basic sweet acid tannin, and no complexity at all. I had hoped for a quick recovery, but it is only improving ...

Re: Port in movies, dramas and tv series

In Ricky Gervais’s film, Cemetery Junction, about 15 minutes into it, Matthew Goode is sitting in a front room persuading a couple to buy a life assurance policy. On the mantelpiece behind his head is an empty Sandeman bottle. The camera never got close enough to make out the specific wine. So Matt...

Re: Topic WHITE aged ports, Tue 17th May 2022

Hahaha, the theme took me somewhat by surprise, but in a good way. I have just checked my cellar, and I'm not at all surprised to find I have exactly no suitable White aged Ports. We drank the Quevedo 30 just before Christmas (it was lovely) and just like that, the cellar was dry. That isn't quite t...

Strangely inconsistent. They gave me a 15% offer when I looked at the site, so I was lucky.

Looks like an interesting tasting. I'm glad Warre did well, often up there for me. Surprised the Graham didn't do better, Was something not quite right with the bottle, or just that other Ports were better? Julian B - have you been diddled out of a point, or you are taking longer to finish scoring, ...

Re: Tensioning tool repurposed

Watching cooking on tv, chefs often use long tweezers to place food on plates. They look interesting to get bits of cork out of bottles. Amazon have some. Thoughts?

Re: 1985 Horizontal - 16 March 2022

Sadly I have to drop off the reserves list. My elder son has just told me that we are going to Leeds Uni to look around the Engineering dept that day. This is a good thing, it will be fun, but the timing sucks. We went round Bristol Uni Engineering yesterday, and he let me know much earlier for that...

A dozen bottles of the normal oil please, and also a bottle of the Centinario if there is enough interest. "strict selection of the very finest olive oil from Quinta do Noval, produced from ancient trees with very low yields". Interesting. "we found it so exceptional that we decided t...
