Re: NEW DATE: Wed 14 Dec 2022 - Quevedo Closure Experiment

There should be room for placemats. We're in the same room as the VE-Day tasting & they worked fine then.

They would prefer if we can pre-order as they're now quite busy. I'll co-ordinate this. Will publish the menu shortly...

Festive Drinking 2022

...and we're off. Just sampling 3rd and 4th from the Quevedo calendar (and will report on those separately), but with dinner this evening one of my few remaining bottles of La Fleur-Petrus 1997. Beautifully soft, nicely mature, and will drink the remaining bottles over the next 2-3 years. First &quo...

S70 mag was slightly wrong. Not bad, but not quite right either. F70 was OK, and possibly not a great bottle. Overall standard was very high.

Have been looking at options for fitting this in, but unfortunately won't be able to attend. Please leave me on the list for next year.

Morphets auction

Considering bidding on a couple of lots at current Morphets auction, but am put off by their extreme unhelpfulness in regards to delivery.

Anyone have experience of buying from them and arranging delivery?

There’s always Benelux, but would prefer a slightly less financially ruinous alternative.

W70 base of neck, decanted 1600, fair sediment.
Cr70 in neck, decanted 1615, loads of sediment.
QA samples good.

ETA probably 1715, possibly a bit earlier.

Re: NEW DATE: Wed 14 Dec 2022 - Quevedo Closure Experiment

I've just seen the announcement of new rail strike action taking place on 13-14 December. For the moment, I am assuming that this tasting will still happen. The strikes may be called off at short notice (again) or people might use other ways to get into London. However, for the purposes of continge...

Re: NEW DATE: Wed 14 Dec 2022 - Quevedo Closure Experiment

Have negotiated a significant reduction in the corkage charge, but suggest that we stay with the number of bottles as planned.

Also, assume we're going to want placemats, so do we need to now divulge what the "interesting" bottles are?

1985 Gould Campbell

First bottle from a case of 12 purchased earlier this year. Bottle visually perfect, although unable to confirm level as the glass was too dark. However, no seepage and a good cork, so suspect the level was well into neck. Only oddities was the (paper?) seal underneath the foil. This was quite diffi...

"Royal" Reserva Rioja 1970 - Bodegas Franco The first of six bottles acquired a couple of years ago from Laithwaites. Pretty much perfect malla (the fine gold mesh) and front and back labels, so suspect this was some form of library stock release. Level base of neck, with original cork tha...

NV Rodrigo Tawny

A single bottle purchased from a French supermarket in Provence in August 2022 for just over 5 euros. It was on the bottom shelf. The back label identifies it as Quarles Harris. Has now been open for about a week, but Vac-U-Vined in between glasses, and has marginally improved since first broaching....

The first tasting for which software made placemats was 30 Nov 2002. Before the software, there had been a hand-crafted draft set of placemats, the style of which has been echoed for this event.

Re: 1994 Quinta do Passadouro

Final glass at +5 days. Nose remains pretty unresponsive, maybe some hints of secondary development but hard to get past the alcohol. The alcohol is still there in the mouth, but there's now a very pleasant licorice. Given where this started, I think it's held up pretty well. However, not especially...
