Caroni 1974 Bristol Classic Rum

Discussed at Virtual Tasting #11, where I mentioned that a bottle might be available for sale. Apparently 1,500 bottles were released in 2008 (which would be around the time I purchased from Bordeaux Index). Two bottles were sold on rumauctioneer.com on 14/9/20 for £675 each. My unopened bottle pict...

Invite on way. Does anyone have a clue who sent the invite for 6pm? It is a forward of the invite for our previous virtual tasting, with the date changed.
Not me Guv.

Victim for this evening now selected. Have gone slightly avant garde in celebration of glorious weather.

Warre's Otima

In the current Cellar Defenders thread JacobH makes mention of Warre's Otima Colheita.

I was aware of, and have tried, the standard Otima 10 and 20, but had missed the '95 and '06 Colheita releases.

Has anyone tried them?

If the 2020 Olympics can happen in 2021, then Warre’s birthday can. So I agree.
An excellent point. 2021 it (probably) is then.

@ nac - Thalabert, but of course! I have almost run through my halves of 2014, I have just taken delivery of 36 halves of 2017 purchased EP from TWS... Another excellent non-Port cellar defender (also from The Wine Society) is Chateau Beaumont. Regularly buy a couple of cases of halves, and had a 2...

Shall celebrate this event by opening bottles of 83 Warre and Taylor tonight.

[Just to clarify, meeting up with a couple of friends - ie, not drinking two bottles by myself.]

Re: VE (etc) Day Tasting - Mon 28 Sept (maybe)

Assuming we can't do this as planned for 8+, do any of the planned attendees (up to 6) fancy making use of the booked venue for a general session of Port consumption & witty conversation, etc.?

It's already in diaries so seems a shame not to...

Re: VE (etc) Day Tasting - Mon 28 Sept

There are two options: (1) Delay the tasting until we are allowed to have 14 people together once again; or (2) Hold the tasting in 2-3 instalments, each instalment of no more than 6 people (all of whom are willing and able to leave when the B&F is required to close at 10pm) In either case, please ...

Re: VE (etc) Day Tasting - Mon 28 Sept

I suspect the recently announced changes to HMG policy re social gatherings will lead to a further date change, but let's see what happens... Thanks to JDAW for doing the placemats (which I'm sure will need a number of updates - including below). Thought the Dow 50 looked a bit lonely so have added ...

Re: Cellar Defenders

My current Port defender is Justerini & Brooks Directors Tawny. Working through a half case and another nearly finished bottle is in my fridge under VacuVin. Like @winesecretary most of my drinking and cellar is still red. Rhone often comes to the defence of the better bottles, and the current prefe...

one of S45 or Borges45 as have not tasted these in the last few years. Also have some others Tony Given a choice then S45, as would be interesting to taste alongside the S42. Re: VE (etc) Day Tasting - Mon 28 Sept

Neil, I would appreciate guidance. We are into ages of port about which I have almost no experience. Do you want the ports to be delivered to 67 PM in advance to rest? I suspect they won't need much decant time, but also fear that double-decanting and then travelling might be a bit brutal for them....

Re: Ideas for tastings

NAC has already done so for the VE Day. NAC, what's the view on the Warre Sesq? I fully intend for the no-tasting-note and 1980 to take place. The BBR is quite soon and AHB has already asked the question on that one. What's the view on the 1970 ones? They involve quite a few non-UK people. VE Day t...

Re: Warre's Sesquarcentennial Tasting - Date TBC

Following some discussions with other attendees have decided to hold off on this until we're in a position to more comfortably hold a tasting for 14 people and all are happy to attend. May need to slide this into 2021, but will keep updating as would obviously be more appropriate to do it in the 350...

We have the Lutyen's Room at 67 which will spaciously take eight, so at present that's the limit.

Re: What was your first vintage?

No idea what my first taste was, but the first memorable bottle was in the mid 1990s. Xmas present of a Dow 1970 from the cellar of my employer at the time.

Think his would be a good recommendation now.

My bottle decanted at 1300.
Just had a quick QA taste and think it's very approachable. Considerable improvement on previous bottle from the same case.
