Re: Fair price for 1933 niepoort?

Thanks Phil. I do have two high resolution photos of the bottle, which in general seem similar to the one you have posted, but I have failed to reduce their size to accommodate the threshold set by TPF. If you pm me your email address, I'd be happy to send them along. In discussions with Axel, we no...

Re: 1963 Avery

Thanks RAYC - that's fascinating info. The 63Avery was my wine of the weekend, IIRC. I was very impressed, and felt that this went toe-to-toe against the Fonseca, with more...flair, somehow. More resolve. At some point I got it confused with the Adams, but I think I have the straight now. Farr had b...

Placemat software / praise jdaw

This and following two posts were in a new thread called “Placemat software / praise jdaw”, but have been merged by jdaw1 into the thread entitled “Software that makes placemats”. The placemat software thread, understandably, does not allow me to input expression1. Jdaw is an artist and a champion ...

Re: Fair price for 1933 niepoort?

Vintage or Colheita? Vintage what i want to pay? or fair value I'd want to pay 300-350$ fair value is probably 450-500$ Yeah, I'm thinking about the same. Had it been $400 I would have just sucked it up. It is $575 so I am stalling. Truth is, my palate for port demands at least some primary fruit, ...

Fair price for 1933 niepoort?

Hard to see the fill level, but the wax capsule appears to have held up. Label is slightly distressed but no sign of seepage I can tell

What do you think is an acceptable price?

We may need to edit closer to the event, but we're ahead of the curve.

Re: 1985 & VA

Last week-end we had Niepoort 1985... and it was full of VA. 3 of 6 of Niepoort 1985 have been defect. :-( Boo! Hiss!! Shame! Niepoort is frustrating in that way. I've had two great bottles of 85 and 2 not good bottles of 85. Similar with 1997, and now 1994s are also showing some signs :( I haven't...

Re: Annual ACPT March 8th 2014 tasting in NY

would brooklyn be out of the question? Umm. I would personally prefer Manhattan, but am open minded. No luck with the likes of: Palm, Allison 18, Northsquare, Keens, etc? I would have voted for any of those, personally. But it's gonna be great regardless. As for bottles, I'm happy to adopt at Jeff'...

Hiss!!

Shame, shame!

Should have been a damn good bottle. That's always been on my short list for wine of the vintage. Gould, Fonseca, Niepoort have also been highly memorable experiences.

Re: 1994 Quinta do Vesuvio

Glad to see you post a fresh note, as I've been pretty good lately about disregarding my stash. The 94V is a candidate for 'port of my life' - It just has it all: Delicious, age-worthy, well made / consistent, attractively priced, etc. I do not give this praise lightly. This is a JCVD flying roundho...

I feel like I've missed a ton of great tastings he's put on. I will be very eager to hear all about it! We're moving this to March, and obviously can't do i...

I would also be interested but have already a fairly packed schedule  regards WS1 You can't miss two years in a row Wolf. That would be horribly un-German of you. We're now thinking 3rd week of March. You're running out of excuses and need to help make sure AHB doesn't run away with the Cup!

Re: 1983 Graham

I agree with RAYC - this is one of the best Ports of the decade. My recent bottles of both this and G85 have left me wondering whether or not G83 might some day be better than G85. The bottles I've had have shown that much potential. 89 points for a G83 is clearly a flawed bottle, which you mention...

Re: 1983 Graham

I hope (and think) that this was not representative - I'd still back this port as amongst the best of the decade. In my view (based on 5-6 bottles since 2012) better than all of G85/80, F85 and D80....but i accept there's room to argue amongst those. Nonetheless i think that well stored bottles (wh...

Re: 1983 Graham

I wondered about ‘splash mountains’ which is in quotes (why?) ... The port may have been 89 but the note rates 96. Thanks for reading/sharing. Splash Mountain is enjoyable and then there is a clear shift that portends disaster, and then there is a crash. It fails in key respects as a winealogy, but...

1983 Graham

375ml 15% opaque. Fairly muted and astringent right out of the bottle. Worry creeps. Feels pretty ripe in the mouth but maybe 'all bass and no intrigue.' Too early to tell. Hope for the best. After about two hours breathing, we get lush plum aromas (not candied, and not as deep and savory as the 94 ...
