Re: We need some tastings in the diary

I am in the unexpected scenario of knowing that I'll be free for a tasting on Mon, Tue or Wed 2-4th July. My other half is away at a conference and I'll be idle in the UK between contracts. Any interest in a tasting then and any themes needing a home? Definitely. Choose a date and start a thread!

Probably a stupid question, but being as I'm from this side of the pond and I don't know I'll ask. Who's in the picture above the fireplace? That's Wolfgang wearing the outfit he had to put on for the final ceremony where he swore allegiance to the Queen, the whole Queen and nothing but the Queen.

The day prior to the BFT would be a big ask of the man organising that event.
Thank you. I will not be available for a few days before 9th May and likely also not the evening of 9th May.

I can't remember how many bottles of Fonseca 1970 or 1985 were filled in 1972 or 1987, but I know it was a lot — let's say it was 10,000 12 bottle cases of each. That means in 2020 we'd expect there still to be around 1,250 cases of each in 2020 / 2035. That seems reasonable. I have a case of F70 an...

Re: Garrafeira "15"

I'm not sure exactly what this is, but the lack of any clear description would lead me to believe that this is a low grade blend from Ramos Pinto, a good quality port producer that is not seen very much in the UK (their main market being Brazil). You might get something around £20-40 for the bottle....

The telepathy was correct.

I can (easily) offer Dow, Mackenzie, Martinez or Sandeman. I could dig something else out of storage if necessary.

This is a port that I have a soft spot for. I think it's showing a little below its best at the moment, on one of those downturns that port seems to go through from time to time.

I was quite lucky last week and managed to buy a dozen of each from a Chinese-American who was running a stall in the market in Dubai. He had loads left, if anyone wants some.

I can’t volunteer to print, unfortunately.

I am a little less well organised for tomorrow night than usual. Is anyone expecting anything from me over and above the F63 I am bringing?

that means you in particular JDAW! Sorry. As a pathetic and unsatisfactory excuse I’ll mention than I do make more TN threads than most. I can’t argue with that. And on the few occasions when I’ve done so I’ve learnt how fiddly and tedious it is to do so. You do a task which is greatly appreciated.

Re: We need some tastings in the diary

In 2016 Oscar Quevedo released a small number of "Closure Experiment" 4 bottle packs of the 2014 vintage. Would anyone be interested in trying a 4 pack at some point this year to see whether there is any discernible difference between them yet? Of course, we would almost certainly have to have some ...

I caught the super blood moon from the office window on Wednesday night around 5pm. It was very impressive. It wasn't the blue moon since it was a few hours less than full, but it looked pretty damn impressive as it came up over the horizon.

As Port I will bring either Cockburns 55, Grahams 55 or Fonseca 66 whichever I find first! But on this day you are the guest! Shush! If our guest wishes to bring Ck55, G55 or F66 it would be churlish to refuse his request to thank us for our hospitality. We will, at least, be able to buy him dinner...

Re: Weds 14 March 2018, SQVP or a mature LBV

Ooh! Controversial! If you mean second wine, then say second wine and don't say SQVP. Noval have always made their ports only from grapes grown on their quinta. For many years Graham made Graham Malvedos from grapes grown outside the quinta boundaries. SQVP excludes Fonseca Guimaraens but Second Win...

Re: A reason to get up early

I always knew of a blue moon as being the second full moon in a calendar month - something which happens roughly once every two years. I understand that a super blue blood moon happens about once every 150 years. Sadly for those of us in the UK, the lunar eclipse happens while the moon is below the ...

Count me in, Tom. I have Rozes 1995 in Magnums. Happy to spend a O-PORT-UNIDADE 5 Liter bottle 2013, wherever that fits in. That's a good point. Tom did just say "...he plans to open..." and carefully avoided saying that all of the large formats he opens will come from his cellar. Some of us also h...

Re: 5th November 2064 - a Quevedo Salmanazar..

For the 2025 event I already have a T55 lined up, so to make the 100 I need a single 1995 magnum - but who bottled mags that year? Is there a Vesuvio? Cellartracker suggests there is, but there seem to be a few fantasy cellars included on that site, so not reliable. I don't recall ever having seen ...

Re: We need some tastings in the diary

I would be interested in a vertical of Offley, not a wine I see very often but one I enjoy drinking when I do see it. I have very little so would probably need to adopt a bottle unless, by some fluke, one of the bottles I did have filled a gap in the line-up. A '94 horizontal next year is another ex...

There is the tiniest of tiny chances that I might be able to attend, though it's not likely right now. All being well, i am now hoping to be able to attend. Very good news.
