Re: Wine Auctioneer

Stuart - if nothing else, I can gaze longingly at the photos you post and admire pictures of wines I am unlikely to ever own. I love pictures of port bottles, I accept my wife's assertion that I may not be wholly normal in this respect, but please do keep posting them.

Re: The Book, ‘Port Vintages’, is for sale

Could you create a stand-up cardboard mock-up of the cover or contents page and some blurb (plus a link to portvintages.com) and then ask if you could leave it in places like the B&F, Bar Douro on a notice board or the end of the bar?

Big Fortified Tasting 2019

The date for the Big Fortified Tasting in 2019 is set for April 16. This is the Tuesday before the Easter weekend, which should be a better date for the Sherry producers as it does not clash with the Jerez fair. As in the previous year, this is a trade only tasting but volunteers from TPF who would ...

1997 Churchill

Served by the glass at Bar Douro @ £14 for a 100ml pour. Dark red, but with a dark brown tone; opaque with a narrow rim. Gentle, sweet attractive fruit nose, complex with sweet damson and green vegetal notes. Very lovely on the palate. Full of fruit with the tannin and acidity to balance perfectly. ...

Re: Bad News if You're Shipping Port in the EU

I believe that if you have an account with the courier company, then you can still ship within the EU. You have to ship duty deferred and pay the duty and VAT of the destination country. The courier company will handle all of the admin and payments for you and will simply charge these to your accoun...

If I'm able to attend (still not certain) should I bring a bottle of something a little more mature with which we can rinse our palates after the hard work of the young ports?

Bad News if You're Shipping Port in the EU

Today I walked into a DHL Service Centre to send some bottles of Port to a friend in another EU country, something I have done nearly every year for the last decade. Apologetically, I was informed that it was no longer possible to do this due to customs regulations. Apparently national customs agenc...

Re: Port wine chocolates

I've occasionally seen these types of chocolates in Hotel Chocolat at Christmas and at food fairs durng the year, but never really paid much attention to them. Some careful ebay or Amazon searching might reveal a source. I do vaguely recall some years ago reading about Graham 6 Grapes being used by ...

Re: Hello from Shropshire!

Hello, and welcome to the Forum. You have my sympathy that you were born in 1993 but you'll make up for that in the future by still being around to enjoy the 2011 vintage long after I've passed my peak!

Have you found the 1993 Tokaji sweet wines yet? There are some superb examples.

Re: Douro Valley and Porto. A possible itinerary

Hi Pelitcka, Thank you so much for writing up your visit. It was really interesting to read and to think of times when I have visited some of the places you write about. I am excited as this year I will have my first visit to Napoles and I really look forward to seeing it at work. And if you think t...

Re: 2016 VP's - Wed 12 September

I suggest organising it as a self-pour walk around tasting. Put all the bottles on some tables at one end of the Red Room and people just help themselves to what they want, sitting down and taking notes as they wish.

Re: Hello from Lisbon

Ola RNR, and welcome to the Port Forum.

Those Coravins are a great investment (although I have also used Leibherr and currently use a EuroCave cabinet) but they need to be made expandable. However large a size you buy - it will be too small within a year!

Hi Pelitcka and welcome to the Forum. Please don't worry about your English — it's very good! And, of course, you would be welcome to join an organised tasting. You w...

I will seek permission. Do you need a professional photographer to attend the evening (and take up a seat as my guest, if he's available and if I'm given permission)?
