Re: Hello from London

Welcome Winesecretary, and thank you for out of the shadows - and I love the Port credentials! That's a fabulous selection of Portious highlights you've drunk. I hope you can join us at one of our London based tastings in the not-to-distant future. We've had a few people come along to their first ta...

Re: 2000 Fortnum and Mason

I should have said this was decanted approximately 30 minutes before I tasted it.

If anything, with a couple of hours in the glass it became bigger and more brutal than when first poured.

Purchased on 13th May 2019 from Fortnum & Mason at £20 for a half bottle (and consumed at Hawksmoor Air Street taking advantage of their Monday Night Wine Club corkage rate of £5 per cork. Yes, this was changed to 25th June. May was too early for many shippers to be ready to send samples.

Instead, I have stolen this date for a casual dinner and drink. Anyone who wants to come to the casual evening should post in this thread

Re: Thursday 23 May 2019: Victoria’s 200th

JDAW seems very insistent that I should bring a bottle of Dow 1878. Sadly I don't have a Dow '78 at home, I drank it at the weekend. Instead I shall bring a bottle of Sandeman 1963, purchased from Victoria Wine.

That does sound like a fantastic event to have been invited to - and I loved the pictures on Facebook.

In your opinion, how does the old VV compare with the 2012 bottling of VV?

But we also have a bonus bottle not on the tasting sheet - Irayna is bringing a bottle with her, one which she is quite pleased to have been able to hunt down and share with us. Teasers or spoilers people?

Re: Wed 1st May 2019, Broadbent Port, at the B&F

I should be able to print the placemats, but will also not be super early (I don't think, at the moment). Alex: please be reminded that you’re printing, partly on A3. Alex I can print if needed. I should get there by about 4.30. Drop a message here if that’s needed. Cheers. I'm OK. I remembered to ...

2016 Churchill Gricha

From Churchill. Deep violet colour, opaque centre. An intriguing nose of raspberry and the distinctive clean, pure spirit that Churchill and a few other use which seems to take longer to integrate than some spirits. Restrained raspberry fruit on entry with big tannins gripping the sides of the mouth...

Bottled under the Presidential label. Deep red in colour, opaque. Nosing of powerful blackcurrant fruit and rock rose perfume, big and pronounced. Lots of deep and rich fruit on the palate, sweet yet with enormous levels of acidity. Lots of tannins show on the mid- and late palate and the acidity ri...

Deep crimson colour. Ripe fruit on the nose. Lovely fruit, balanced and fresh with a massive tannin load; gripping and very firm, but with the fruit to last and linger. This will turn into an amazing Port in 50 year time. The aftertaste is incredibly fragrant, full of perfumed fruit. A massive finis...

Dark crimson colour, opaque. Ripe blueberry on the nose, intense and concentrated. Smooth and sweet blueberry fruit on impact, with the mid-palate showing powerful but well-rounded tannins and a well judged balancing acidity. Such rich fruit on the palate, sweet and powerful. Re: Is anyone interested in....

You probably wouldn't get much for it if you sold it. As JDAW says, it's not a top tier Vintage Port. But I've often found that mature Vintage Port (which this is) is so different from the experience that most people have of Port. If you haven't tried a 45 year old Port before, please do seriously c...

An intense purple colour. Fresh nose of very ripe strawberries, showing some clean alcohol that hasn't fully integrated yet. Soft and smooth fruit with a huge pack of firm tannins; the fruit remiains smooth and sweet but this has a huge tannic load; a really big and old fashoned style of Port but on...
