77 decanted at 9pm last night in case I forget. The hue is darker than I remember.

Re: Tuesday 13 November - a smattering of Graham and Malvedo
In quantity certainly but perhaps not in quality. I have a preference for the Graham placemats due to both the variety of bottlings shown as well as the more innovative use of the second sheet.

Updated draft of the placemats . Done - should the theme heading be in the gap between the 60 and 63 rather than 55 and 60? http://www.jdawiseman.com/2012/20121113_graham_20121111_left.png http://www.jdawiseman.com/2012/20121113_graham_20121111_right.png Also see Very rarely one might want the cent...

Thank you. Will do.DRT wrote:Sorry, I missed this first time around. I agree that G77 benefits from a long decant - it can be very hot and disjointed in the first few hours. 24 hours doesn't sound like a bad plan to me.

I would have to taste both first to let you know without doubt. But if I had to make a punt I would go for the lower fill despite the cork positioning.

Re: London tastings: Port request list
There are some relatively young ports with good reputations that I have never tried and would love to do so if the chance crops up. These are: Magalhaes 2007 Quinta do Vale Meao 2007 Dow 2003 Quarles Harris 2003 Smith Woodhouse 2003 Warre 2003 Gould Campbell 2000 Quarles Harris 2000 Sandeman 2000 S...

I think the Sainsbury's BdB and BdN are both made by Duval Leroy. A decent purchase indeed for mid-week fizz.

Re: 20 year tawny tasting
Has the date been chosen? If yes, please could it be added to the title of the thread? I don't think it has been settled yet. Given their relative enthusiasm for this, shall we try to find a date that both Griff and Jacob can make? Doesn't preclude Oct 29th being a night for a tasting. No need to o...

Re: One handed corkscrews?
I think all avenues have been suggested. However for some light amusement here are two of my favourite ways of opening wine without a corkscrew.

Re: Taylor Vertical - Spring 2013
My dad is coming over from Australia for a short visit (unfortunately not a port fan) and so free dates are a little tight. At this stage I can only make 22nd, 23rd, 25th, 26th. Depending on what he does I may be able to make other dates.DRT wrote:Please feel free to suggest dates that work.

Re: 1997 Niepoort
in a winery, commercial yeast will possibly escape and start floating around in the air. It is certainly plausible that some champagne yeasts may have not been fully killed off and resided int he flawed bottles (though rare) Fizzy port, at least it saves you from putting the tonic in. Add lime and ...

You may also recall the occasion when I first re-corked some Ni97's and you witnessed one bottle in my kitchen erupting its contents like a bottle of champagne.. I know of at least 1 other bottle where the same thing happened. I didn't see it happening myself but was told that it seemed like the ju...

Just opened the F63, and... ..it's a bloody forgery! - a blatent but well crafted forgery... - embossed wax capsule covering a foil and T-stopper. The wine inside is an old ruby.. Fortunately the stash came from Christies, so I should have some redress; although it was bought a long time ago.. Will...
