2000 Macedos
Deep red in colour, showing very little impact of the 10 years of age. Lovely soft nose of tart blueberries and lavender. Silky texture, soft flavours envelope the tongue and caress the cheeks before the tannins coat the teeth with fur - this is still so incredibly tannic for a 10 year old wine. The...

Re: Warre II, 17 April 2010
I'm known for being a relatively low scorer. 90-92 from me means that in my opinion this is a very tasty wine and one which brings a lot of enjoyment. 85-89 is a good wine that is one to buy and drink. 80-84 would be a good wine that is one to buy and drink if the price is right. 93+ points means th...

Re: The Yank is Thirsty - 19th April 2010 -TCP
It was good fun on Monday night, and we had a bonus bottle of some Pisca 2007 that Cookie forgot to mention. The steaks were delicious, despite no longer having the rib-eye on the bone available. The ports were good although the cork monster is getting to be a bit frustrating with the D77 - perhaps ...

Re: Warre II, 17 April 2010
I can't add much new to what has already been said. Julian, his father and step-mother looked after us wonderfully well and over-fed us with the most exquisite food. The Warres were remarkably consistent, reaching a peak with the '55 and '66. Once older than this, there was a remarkable consistency ...

Re: Maps of the Douro
When you’ve decided how to link to the map from the alphabetical TN index , please let me know. I envisage, at the end of a subset of lines containing a â—Š, a ‟ ( map ) ”: all that I need to know is the link, which would ideally consist of a prefix string, the HTML ID, and a postfix string. Curre...

Re: Time for a TN sort?
Madalena was a typo; sorry. For the others I have: donamaria=valededonamaria (do people expect "Vale de X" quintas to be under V or under X?)... Personally, I would want to find it under both as I think it is one of those abbreviations which depends on the person who is doing the abbrevia...

May I remove the poster names from the TN indexes. E.g.: 1957 : GM57 DRT on 21 Mar 2010 Though DRT started the thread in capacity as tasting organiser his TN doesn’t appear in it. This problem is widespread: e.g., threads started by me, containing a very brief JDAW TN, and a long and worthwhile AHB...

Red in colour, with a pink rim turning slightly orange; light and transparent centre. Dusty nose, sweet redcurrants leaping from the glass. Sweet and fruity first impression on the palate, balanced by a hint of spice and acidity and with fully integrated tannins. Sweet, slightly cheek-drying afterta...

I've not ever tried this wine. In general, I find 1997s are closed and surly. I am therefore generally not opening 1997s. Oh, and I don't have any of the Taylor 1997. Yet. Have you taken a look at FTLOP's tasting note database? Roy has one tasting note posted and there are four member tasting notes.

1977 Quarles Harris
Decanted very cleanly through unbleached coffee filter paper. Surprisingly deep red in the centre with a slight hint of orange on the rim - the sort of colour that promises a pleasant secondary maturity. Dusty strawberries on the nose, sweet and slightly syrupy. Slightly thin texture in the mouth an...

Welcome to the Port Forum. If you're comfortable to do so, perhaps you could let us know a name rather than have us call you "papa's port". None of the bottles you've listed out are in desperate need of drinking now if they have been properly stored undisturbed while lying on their side in...

1977 Messias Colheita (bottled 2006)
Another cellar defender bites the dust. Bottled in 2006. Decanted from a bottle sealed with a short, driven cork that was branded only with the name "Messias" and a rather impressive crest; the bottle contained only a very small amount of very fine sediment. Very pale orange in appearance ...

Re: 1967 Taylor Vargellas
Slightly paler than the Taylor 1966 shown alongside. Closed on the nose, with an odd petrol or oil dominating but this opened and improved with time. Sweet, thick in texture, surprisingly dry and tannic impact. Big and complex flavours in the mouth with a significant spicy heat. Many layers of flavo...

Re: 1966 Taylor
Very slightly darker colour than the Vargellas 1967 shown alongside. Lovely open nose, stewed fruits and floral perfumes. Smooth and sweet in the mouth; plenty of fruit with a noticeable tannic core. Fruit develops well in the mouth, but other wines have had more depth. A slight heat on swallowing, ...

Re: 1967 Martinez
Almost identical in colour to the Warre 1966 shown alongside. Closed on the nose, showing some bananna and dust. Quite thick in texture, gentle tannins in the wine with plenty of fruit and a ripe acidic backbone; lots of late development. A delicious aftertaste, big flavours and a huge aftertaste. R...

Shown alongside a Martinez 1967 and almost identical in colour. Sweet redcurrants on the nose, showing some mature fruit but also a little unknit. Plenty of fruit on entry, lively development on the palate. Good complexity and lovely development; tannins are almost imperceptible. Terrific aftertaste...

Re: 1967 Noval
Ex-cellars. Slightly deeper red than the 1966 tasted alongside this wine. Very dusty on the nose, more closed than the 1966 but with a lovely white cherry scent. A thick texture, very dusty on the tongue. 92/100. Drunk 13 Nov 2009.
