I know, I know, I really should try harder. But since my wife became teetotal 1 bottle seems to be about all I get through over the course of a few days.

Christmas port choice

Hi all Unlike most on this forum I don't get through much port in a year; probably only about 3 bottles on special occasions. One of those occasions is always Christmas, and this year I have to decide between opening a Fonseca '66 or a Fonseca '70. Which ever one I decide to leave will probably beco...

Re: Help- cheese with port

I agree that a good aged Gouda is great with port. Similarly I also quite like Comte or Gruyere. For blue I like anything sharp and creamy on a digestive biscuit. Lovely :)

Re: Latest buy

In the past 2 weeks:

6 x Grahams 2011
6 x Fonseca 2011
3 x Grahams 1994
1 x Fonseca 1977
1 x Taylor 1977
1 x Taylor 1970
1 x Grahams 1966

My current account is feeling rather poorly now :( ... But on the bright side my port cellar is full of optimism for the future :D

Cheers, Rich.

1977 Fonseca

On opening there was a wonderful strong nose of Christmas cake, after decanting however it was quite closed in the glass. At T+0 I could taste strawberries, blackberries and cherry with a hint of pepper, the spirit was strong but already quite well integrated. Not a bombastic 'in your face' port, qu...

Re: shipping info / release dates?

A thought: would it be helpful to have a thread containing links to and recommendations of good wine merchants? I think it would be bad to let it turn into a negative topic of bashing those who people don't like, but a list of helpful and reliable merchants might be useful. I'd find such a list of ...

Re: What are we lining up for Hanumas?

I have a Grahams '66 lined up for the run-up to Chrimble, and a Taylors '70 in the firing line for the day itself. :nirvana:

1994 Graham

Still very dark color, just a little pink around the rim. Not much on the nose on first opening, but after 24 hours in the decanter some cherries and blackberries. Flavours of cherry, coffee, cinnamon and raisins. Very fruity, quite mild acidity and soft tannins, not especially long. In summary, very...

1970 Taylors

After being a little disappointed with the previous bottle of this I'd had I was looking forward to seeing how this one fared. I needn't have worried. It was full of delicious flavors like plum, apricot jam, coffee and milk chocolate. The tannins were lovely and soft and there was just the right amo...

2003 BBR

Berry bros, cork badged as Quinta de la Rosa. Inky black colour, very little on the nose, but some hints of blackberries. Black fruits again to taste but not a massive flavour at all. Pleasant accidity and spirit, but massive tannins towards the end rather spoil things. Ok, but not great. It is stil...

1970 Taylor

Straight after decanting it tasted of stewed plums with a quite harsh spirit burn; rather disapointing, so I left it alone for a couple of hours. On return the spirit had begun to integrate & it was much smoother. The next day it was better still with the fruit coming through more and background...

Damaged wax seal

Hi All I have a bottle of Taylor '70 ordered, and the merchant has sent through some pictures of the bottle for me to see before confirming the order. I'm a bit concerned about the state of the wax capsule however. What do people think? Would you worry about the amount of damage shown in the picture...

Re: 92,94 & 95 Vintages for Sale

Hi again Tom Would you be prepared to ship to the UK? I understand if you'd rather not have the hassle. If so I'd still be interested in the 3 Grahams '94 provided shipping isn't prohibitively expensive. Cheers, Rich. Hmmm, a quick google seems to suggest it might not be legal to ship alcohol out o...

Hi Tom

I could be interested in either the Grahams or Fonseca '94s. Let me know what you're after for them.

Cheers, Rich.

Taylors '77 for Christmas itself, and possibly a Grahams '94 if I feel like something else in the runup to new year (which I probably will :D ).

1983 Grahams

Date: July 2010 Colour: Dark reddish brown Quite a lot of spirit dominating this port at T+0, in the background I found dried fruit notes of prunes & dates? Tanins were noticeable but not overpowering. Tasted again at T+3 and then finished with friends at T+8. As time went on the spirit seemed t...

1977 Grahams

Date: April 2010 Colour: Light red, almost tawny pink. Cork was saturated with some concentrated, syrupy residue on top. When I tried to use a corkscrew on it it just sank into the bottle. The smell on decanting was of candy floss; very sweet. Decanted for 6 hours and drunk alongside cheese over the...

Hi all

New member here from London UK. I've enjoyed a glass (or 2) of port over the years and have just started to dip my toe in the waters of the good vintage stuff :)

I'm looking forward to passing on my tasting notes going forward, and comparing them to what others have found.

Cheers, Rich.
