Having had some nice VP's around my birthday (1987 Warre Qta da Foz, and 1977 Pocas J), all I have left for X-mas is a 1991 Vargellas VP. Otherwise I'll be breaking my VP-year-limit for this year (which I installed only last year, so to be breaking this already will probably show my lack of VP-willp...

Gerwin, From your description it is possible that the cork on the first bottle isn't being pushed out but might never have been pushed all the way into the neck. If this is the case, and with the fill level you describe, it is likely to have a perfect seal. The way to tell is to remove the capsule ...
