Re: Seeking

Having now written that I have had an epiphany. Give the alien T85. It will not be able to comprehend the greatness of G85, so the G85 would be wasted. The alien raises his 5 sets of eyebrows at this remark, recalling the day a small space probe landed down the street from him, and his impressions ...

Re: Seeking "The Authentic Vintage Port" experience...?

The alien is sitting in the corner, a glass of (still) water in front of him, an unlit cigar in the ashtray beside him, looking somewhat bemused.
You might think he too is wondering why the Ramos Pinto has had no air time.
But you would be wrong.

2004 Quinta do Portal LBV

Bottled in 2008 - 16.99 euros Decanted at 3pm...: Rich, inky red. like black-raspberries - some heat at the back of the throat D + 8: Pleasant, quite soft, but somehow somewhat flat - something of a “ping” at the finish D + 24: tastes a little like whisky with fruit added - quite hot, but not necess...

Seeking "The Authentic Vintage Port" experience...?

My local wine shop was trying to score me a few bottles of a specific 2011 - they gave me a price, but by the time I got to loose the arrow, the price had gone over 100 euros. I pondered. And then it struck me that, if I was prepared to pay 100 euros for a bottle of port I couldn't (well, shouldn't)...

Re: 2003 Krohn Colheita

...so I would suggest you try the 2003 Warre unfiltered LBV next. You can get it at the GN for 18,60... Thanks for the suggestion - I'm in Lisbon in a couple of weeks time, and I'll try to score a bottle (or 2). The guy in GN gave me a somewhat strange look when I walked in, went straight to the sh...

2003 Krohn Colheita (bottled 2013)

(Bottled in 2013) (Thanks to AW77, who suggested I try this one) 17.50 euros from Garrafeira Nacional in Lisbon Decanted at midday: Fiery hot. Red/brown - some sweetness, some fruit, but it's hard to taste past the burning sensations D + 4 hours: Intense heat has faded. Rich, thick, not as fruity as...

Re: Tasting Notes List

In the time that :tpf: has existed we have had four versions of the tasting note index pages. The first three of those were created by people who expressed an interest, created an index, updated it for a while and then vanished. Because of this the Admins decided some time ago that, despite our lim...

Tasting Notes List

I've been finding the tasting notes list somewhat inaccessible. So I've taken the liberty of remaking it in a somewhat different style. It looks, at the moment, something like this... http://i62.tinypic.com/13zu1x2.jpg The live version is here ... http://knickknack.x10host.com/WineLoverPT/Output_ByY...

Re: Predicting the future

I was kind of hoping there were indicants of probability - surely there must be? For example, everyone seems to be saying the 2011 is really excellent, and that most of it is really for 20+ years hence. Now, those experts (add parentheses if desired) are obviously tasting, smelling, or seeing someth...

Predicting the future

The background to this question is based on my recent review of a 2005 Quinta do Portal... http://www.theportforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8615 I opened this one in order to determine whether or not to put some more in the cellar "for the future". However, I'm sitting here thinking, we...

2005 Quinta do Portal

A while ago the wife spotted a "25% of all port" coupon from our local supermarket, so I went on a bit of a "raid", and this was one of the hostages I took - 30 euros (minus 25%). A few days ago I spotted that they still had it on the shelves, so I cracked is open with a view to ...

Re: The colour of old Martinez

Does Baga=Jeripoga? I was under the impression that it was more than just elderberry juice they jazzed port up with. I thought it was a soup of all sorts of heady ingredients. No - Baga's just a grape variety - much grown in Bairrada in Portugal. Jeropiga is a sweet, alcoholic drink made by adding ...

(I see no bottling date on this bottle) D: At decanting time this was hot hot hot. Thick, almost jellylike in the mouth - hugely opaque - blackberries, with a medium finish. D + 24 hours: Blackberries, blackcurrants, and other black- prefixed fruit. Deep, thick - nice heat in the mouth, but still a ...

Neither Jaen nor Alfrocheiro

Here's another clue...

You might well take an anagram of this onto an aeroplane, but you certainly would not take the anagram into an E.Leclerc supermarket in Portugal

It's a variety fairly specific, but not exclusive, to a particular region (I'm guessing you know which country we're talking about)
