2003 horizontal tasting

Tomorrow I'm hosting a port tasting for six of my friends. The last time I hosted a tasting, it went like this . This time I'm focussing on the ruby style and I've decided to do a "semi" 2003 horizontal with an odd last bottle. The line-up http://img362.imageshack.us/img362/4899/lineupsmal...

Re: New Style

I think this is a matter of taste and as long as we have different layouts to select, then I'm not objecting to anything. I prefer that you have the layout you like and have worked hard for and that I've got this default layout which I like.

Re: 2003 Rozes Vintage Port

Interesting. I've got their LBV from 2000 (bought it for 85DKK/┚¬12/$17, which is a very fine price for an LBV and cheaper than the VP) and I will thus look forward to drinking that. So prices may be reversed in different countries or for different vintages ...

Re: New Style

Actually, I think you're right about the colours for read and unread threads. They don't cause trouble. I stand corrected. It's not so much the overview itself that I'm against, only slightly, no it's the thread layout. Centered quotes, colours too much alike, too little space between posts, the col...

Re: Food and Port

I've only had creme brulee with Port once, and the combo wasn't that good, although it wasn't bad either. I think it was caused by the choice of Port - a Portal 20 year old tawny. But I'm willing to try other combinations to see if this combo is indeed as good as it sound to me on paper :P

Re: New Style

I think the most important issue for me is that it's almost impossible to differentiate between read and unread threads as the colour scheme used is the same. To me the new layout is just a bunch of words with no real structure to it. If you try the silver layout for a day and then switch back you s...

Re: New Style

I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned or you are only testing, but I must say that the current color scheme, icons and what have you creates the most frustrating layout I've ever seen on a forum. It must be coded in some way so that you're only able to really understand it after a few glasses...

Re: 2003 Rozes Vintage Port

Indeed. Indeed.

Compared to an unfiltered LBV I would say that the Rozes had less tannins, less alcohol, less structure, more sweetness.

Hung over and alcohol

Do you ever drink alcohol to ease the pain when you're hung over? I know from myself that alchol greatly helps to remove some of the uncomfortness. A couple of beers is usually does the trick, but a drink might be even better if the pain is caused by beer. I've also had some Port the day after and a...

2003 Rozes Vintage Port

Yesterday I had this "VP". I took it with me to a friends place, opened the bottle and (we) drank it within 30 minutes after arriving. Haste! Anyway, this is a (light?) LBV in disguise. Soft, sweet and pleasant, as I recall. I liked it, though, but I would not classify this as VP! It was f...

Short's Brewing Imperial Series

There's a brewpub in Michigan making crazy beer. I attended a beer tasting recently where 13 bottles from their imperial series were served. Some of them were normal, some quite weird: The ones I liked the best was the ginger flavoured and the peach flavoured beers. They were balanced and yummy! :D ...

There are programs that can download entire websites (e.g. webzip) but these might give you some problems regarding how to mark and find new posts since your last login/offline-download.

Re:

A great example is Bronco Winery here in the states. They sell a line of dry wines call Charles Shaw (also known as "Two Buck Chuck") as it sells for only $2 a bottle  This reminds me of the episode of Oz Clarke and James May's "Big Wine Adventure" (season 2) where they h...

Login error

Am I the only one experiencing that if I check the "keep me logged in" checkbox on the login page, I don't get logged on when entering my username and password? If I try and login (without checking that box) just afterwards, then all topics are marked as read. A bit frustrating. This effec...

Bland, I agree. I had it a few weeks ago and had I not seen the label, I might have guessed it was a ruby . As Derek suggests, it does get better when chilled a bit. I don't think it would by an LBV from Taylor again. I rather buy a good ruby at a price less tha this LBV or e.g. an unfiltered ...

I had that problem recently at a white wine blind tasting. It was pretty obvious that there we no wines from Alsace. I guess an Otima would create the same problem. We need a black decanter

Of course I would have to buy two so that I can make sure that he'll like it  If I remember correctly, I've heard that Niepoort's should be very good. Any other su...

Port - Henrik Oldenburg Lots and lots of information on the different port houses and on the history of port, which makes it a very useful book. Given that it's from the late '90's, a good deal of the information is already outdated. Advice please: Portvin (Used) = £25 These should be the same, alt...
