I liked the Warre 1985. Very dark in color, nose a bit subdued, but still very nice: blueberry pie and black tea. Dark chocolate and spice (allspice) on the palate, rather thin mouthfeel. 89 pts.

A bad bottle of Graham 1985. Dark in color, aroma of smelly sneakers. Nutty, chocolately flavors, but the bottle stink was just awful. 70 pts.

I think the Andresen 1985 might have been acceptable drinking on its own, but when you put it up against such heavy hitters as Dow, Taylor and Warre, it will pale (literally) in comparison. Very light tan color, brown sugar, rum-like nose. Quite thin, watery, and very light in flavor. 82 pts.

The Taylor 1985 looked to me like one of the darkest ports in the bunch. Powerful and fruity, but very well put together on the nose, with a slight nuttiness. Flavor of deep fruits, lots of life. Long, sweet, spicy finish. Jeff noted currants. 93 pts.

I really didn't have much of a note on this one, although I did note 'corked' and that I was very disappointed. We did return to it later, but I wasn't sure if it had improved in the glass or whether our tastes were getting less discriminating as the evening wore on.

I can print out the placemats. On Monday I opened up the notoriously problematic Moreira 1966 to give it some time to air out, as suggested by Andy. The others I will open the night before, unless anyone suggests otherwise. I just realized that an important thing to note with the colheitas is the bo...

Count me in! I will be glad to adopt a bottle, as I currently do not own any 1970's. Feb 13 or 14th will probably work for me.

Re: You’re providing all the bottles, so why not split it n

Eric: let’s not do adoption for the Colheita tasting. You’re providing all the bottles, so why not tell us the bad news and we will split it n ways? Also, location? Where do we want to do this? I’d like some variety, arguing against the usual 83rd Street venue. That's a good idea. Once we figure ou...

I won't be able to make the first night, but I will be able to make the second night, so I will bring the Taylor 85 and the Andresen 85 then. That way you'll be assured of having enough to taste for Thursday night (although I do hope there will be some left from each bottle for me to try!)

I'm visiting family for the holidays right now. I have a friend coming over in a few minutes so we're going to be having a Dow's Quinta do Bomfim 1992. It's very dark in the decanter, and quite delicious.

I'm 90% sure I will be able to make it for the 27th. The emergency tasting situation sounds like it's getting pretty critical! Have you set a time yet?

But wait, there's more!

I finally made it to Newark today, so I have a few more Colheitas that will be up for adoption for the January tasting. My personal contribution will be the Dalva 1952 Golden White. Here's what I picked up today: Andresen 1980 Colheita Smith Woodhouse 1986 Colheita Krohn 1990 Colheita Messias 1990 C...

Wow, this does sound like an emergency! I will be away from Saturday, the 22nd and I'm not exactly sure when I will be getting back, but it will probably be the 27th or 28th. If I can make it, I can contribute a Taylor 85 for sure, but I might also have one or two rather obscure oddball 85s that mig...

Adoptable Bottles

I haven't had time to go to Newark yet, but I did pick up a few bottles that are currently up for adoption. Here's my current list of adoptable bottles: 1952 Dalva Golden White Colheita 1963 Feist Colheita 1966 Moreira Colheita 1979 Delaforce Colheita (500 ml) 1983 Rocha Colheita 1986 Delaforce Colh...

Eric, If you open the Moreira 1966, I suggest opening it about 1-2 weeks prior to the offline. This sounds crazy, I know. But Jay, Roy, and I have all had this on different occassions and have all discovered it makes a rather large turn around and becomes a very good Colheita after being open that ...

I think a Colheita tasting is definitely in order. The aged tawnies are generally pretty consistent, but the Colheitas show a great deal of variation, a lot of it depending on how long they were kept in the cask. That will make for a much more interesting tasting. I don't have very many Colheitas on...

I will be away from Jan 20th for about a week, but it looks like I can pretty much make it on any of these dates.

I was thinking a tasting of 20-year-old tawnies might be fun. Any interest?

Happy to be here

Hello Everybody!

Just met Julian at Roy's Taylor/Fonseca tasting in NYC last week and he encouraged me to join the forum. I'll try not to be as neglectful as I am with posting in the FTLOP forum.

From what I recall, Andy, that Nacional 1963 was pretty damn good! :D

hello

Hello Everyone. Looking forward to meeting you all tomorrow.

Sounds like you're all aiming at decanting around 30 hours, so I will do the same with the Ramos-Pinto.
