Re: Friday 01 April 2016, Lupulo NYC, Graham
ah good to know thanks! Thank you, Jeff! Next time we have to make sure you're able to participate. It's two tastings in a row that you weren't able to make and to which you contributed great wine. Your 2009 Vale do Meão was great. Still young but not crazy fruity. It was the perfect match for the ...

Re: 1983 Graham
I think this had about 6 hours if I'm right but it may have been longer - Miguel can correct me when he's back online. I thought, having had very poor experiences with top of the range 83s, that this was VERY good for an 83! It was a little sweaty in the nose perhaps, without being stewy; it was cit...

Re: 1977 Graham
This was a little madeira-ish in the nose: not extractive, but with the beautiful warm wood tones, and with apricots. I found it slightly flat in the mouth, it was very soft and smooth and I think had a late touch of bitterness. Good port, not very good.

Re: 1970 Graham
Lovely and warm in the nose. VERY SOFT in the mouth, not very much structure or acid, but great velvety fruit, rich and agreeable. Simple? Perhaps.

Re: 1963 Graham
Honeyish in the nose. I sensed some flatness and asked if anyone thought it was corked. Nobody did. As my guest Mark, an audio expert, put it very cannily, this lacked mid-range. I thought this was a brilliant description: the bass was there, with the dense body one would expect, and the high top no...

Re: 1955 Graham
This was a very good bottle. I noted cedar and tobacco in the nose which were very agreeable. It was still a little taut in the mouth as Jay says, but I don't think that it really has that far to go. Bottles from the same batch were tasted here (at which Johnny Symington thought, "disappointing...

Re: Handwriting questions
Tried. The way I worked this out was to look at the individual letters. First we see a capital T. This is followed by a small r. The next three letters are i, e and d. I put these all together, making sure to keep them in the right order, and the word they spelled out was Tried. Tried. Glad to be he...

'Ourselves' for 'us'.
'Yourself' for 'you'.
'Myself' for 'me'.
For example, "Please give ourselves a call if your car still isn't working."
Save our pronouns.

Re: April 2017 - 55@55 again?
I'm interested. I think I drunk my last 55 last night. That can be remedied somehow, most obviously with reference to Tom's last post.

Re: New York again, Easter
Will report back with confirmed status of my guest as soon as I can (hi from Ithaca by the way!)
I suggest we divide the total food bill by the total number of actual attendees.. And that Chris not be liable. It's a small hit. If this isn't feasible, no problem!

Re: Apostrophe crimes
Style guides and books of usage are generally clear on this point. A dozen (eggs, or bottles) is a singular unit; the collective noun takes the verb, not the individual items. If a dozen people are meeting you for a port tasting, they are plural; I think this is to with the non-identical nature of t...

My 55 and 63 came to about $200 together.
I will ask my friend Mark if he wants to join; but do we have a bottle shortage??

Re: New York again, Easter
- Chris Doty (60, 66 - Daniel is bringing a 63) My 66 is in storage, it turns out. I have 60 and 63 (and 70, 85, etc), but no 66 to hand, I'm afraid. I may be visiting storage before the event, and if so will update you, but at the moment it is unavailable. Looking forward to it! Have we arranged p...

Re: New York again, Easter
I should have said - the supply of bottles here is very heavily weighted to two people, Chris and Miguel. I can bring a 63 in addition to my 55, which evens things out; Chris, you can keep your 63 back in that case. Perhaps I'll just pack the 63 anyway, in case this message isn't read / replied to b...

The Players' Club told me this: Our Kintsler Room is available on Friday, April 1st. · Room Charge $1,200.00 · 2 X Server @ $35 per hour (minimum 4 hours) · Menu attached. This works out at over $100 each before we've eaten or drunk anything! I travel to New York tomorrow morning. At this point I'm ...

1963 Taylor
Lightest of a bunch bought at Adam's in Dublin (if you want to argue about the apostrophisation of that, go ahead and make my day). Irish bottling in brown glass. Opened at my townhouse in the company of DRT. To begin with, popped and poured, this was hard and woody and very blocky. It was extremely...
