Re: 1996 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port

Mark, I have from 1996 Sandeman Vau Vintage Port which needs a lot of air. Even after 72 hours it was in a decent condition. Due to the vintage certainly not a blockbuster at all but a focus and depth one can find on the Ruby site only in a VP. Perhaps the FG will reward patience too.

2001 Quinta do Vesuvio

Split from here by DRT as this is a TN from a different bottle so deserves its own thread  I had this one 4 weeks ago and got completly different impressions. Drank the half of a standard bottle within 8 hours . Intitially nose of Cabernet (sic!), later plum, black cherry, spices. Generous sw...

Re: No passionate Whisky thread here?

Finally I purchased last weekend my all time favorite SMW, namely Lagavulin aged 16 years. Peat, sweetness, salt, power and comlexity. Far above every other SMW I had so far. Real elixir.

I highly expect that there will be a repetition.

Axel,
I had this SQVP one year ago and I found it to be far from being mature. I fully agree with your perspective. This will be a winner sure enough.

Have a Glenfarclas 10 years old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky today. Pretty dry style, straight character, gains smoothness while warming up. Not a pleaser but full of character. Enjoyed it while listening Pergolesi 's Stabat Mater from radio4.nl- my favoured radio station.

Re: Off Alcohol

Michael, as I am a German too, I should be permitted to point out a different traditional approach. Is this a moderately common practice among Germans? No, not at all. There are many following the english etymological approach. Liver an delivery do have the same radical. So it should be evident that...

Re: Latest buy

Derek,

I have some bottles of this VP. I must admit, the 2 or 3 bottles a I had so far never wowed me. I found it to be quite boring. I allways tought it to be in a suboptimal phase. But I did not try extended aeration until now. I should make a new try and accommodate yours advices.

Julian, thanks for the hint. Most of the 1997 seem to be closed down. That's why I leave them alone since some time.
2005 Rozès VP is very fruity but rather lean. At that price worth a try.

Re: No passionate Whisky thread here?

I had today a pretty frosty job in my garden, cutting and chaffing the cobnut bushes. The banging stove in my bower was quite nice. But in the evening the finish did some glasses of The Macallan 12 years old Single Malt Whisky. This is very delicious lasting heat coming from the inside.

Re: 1994 Niepoort Vintage Port

Axel, thanks for all the notes on the Niepoort Vintage Ports, which I enjoyed reading. As to 1994 Niepoort VP it is striking that there are barely assessments from the professionals. Maybe it is owing to some problems Richard Mayson mentioned in his book. This lack of information is the reason why I...

Re: Noval 97

BTW: At least since 2 years there are no standard bottles left for sale at the quinta. According to a merchant in Germany he managed to buy the last halves. I would guess in 5-10 you will not find any bottle of this VP for under 170 EUR, even in the UK.

Re: Noval 97

Hi! In this case Mr. Parker is right. It's by far the best VP I had so far. If tasted blind I would have probably guessed it to be a super welldone Ch9dP. I am not kidding. This was simply increddible smooth and elegant without excess of alc. I payed 70 EUR on release. So after 10 years 150$ or 105 ...

Portman,

perhaps an off bottle. I had this Reserve Ruby some months ago and I liked it. One of the better I had. Equal to Graham's Six Grapes for my palate.
