Seven hour response for an international emergency. Jeff Tracy would be proud!

Re: Music suggestions

I felt something smoother and more languid would be needed for the RP20. I did consider Baroque (although I was thinking Music for the Royal Fireworks) but it was too lively and not mellifluous enough. I ended up choosing between Moon River and Summertime from Porgy & Bess (the Billie Holiday v...

Re: Music suggestions

To advance the conversation, be encouraged to give reasoned disagreement with a previous suggestion. Sandeman Vau 2003? - Quite young and brash at present. Mussorgsky - Night On Bald Mountain. Is the music more dangerously brooding than the youthful brash charming Port? I think my (impressionable) ...

Re: Music suggestions

Fonseca 1970? - Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss is a good option. An alternative might be Fanfare for the common man by Copeland. Graham Malvedos 1986? - I have not had the pleasure I believe so cannot comment. Sandeman Vau 2003? - Quite young and brash at present. Mussorgsky - Night On B...

1999 Dow Bomfim

Pop and pour. An intense, opaque black-red colour. Blackberry, figs and prunes on the nose. A very rich, sweet, mouth-filling palate of black fruit. Perhaps some anise on the medium length finish. Fine tannins present yet integrated with little heat apparent. Another few years would only lead to mor...

Re: 1998 Taittinger Comtes de Champagne

1998 was my go to vintage for a number of years. I have the Comtes at the top but I was also rather keen on Pol in all expressions. Moving onto 2008 as my next vintage to stock up on after brief but memorable flirtations with 2002 and 2004.

1977 Graham

D + 0 hours: Medium-deep colour and moving towards tawny. What is this? The last bottle was a pale pink specimen. A bouquet of cacao with a palate of chocolate dipped spiked dates with a calvados finish from spirit perhaps. Rich and developing. D+ 24 hours: The colour had lightened to that pale pink...

Should I be invited to such an affair, a portion of aged Comté would be a wonderful companion. While it may suit neither tradition nor pedantry, it would be a welcome repast.

I would be interested should a consortium by mustered and Australia truly be a destination. Despite our history, there is an absence of irons available.

Aldi selling 50cL Maynard's 1990 Colheita Port for 15 pounds. Starts 21st May until stock runs out. I would be curious what the bottling date was. Good price if recently bottled.

Oh, a consistently good drop from splits a decade ago. No doubt that, in full bottles and from UK storage, it should serve as a more than worthy replacement.

Haven't seen a review for this in a while. While I thank you I am sad about your views. Based on your experience, do you think it could 'come good'? It is past the 20 year rule after all.

cheers

Australian importer has cleared a fair few Quinta de la Rosa 2000 and 2003 vintage ports at auction. Managed to pick up a couple of the 1999 Vale do Inferno as well.

Re: Gould Campbell

It would be a loss. While it may result in the emergence of a number of small-grower vintage ports, the idea that one stops making port under these brands after a century or three is a damm shame.

2009 Taylor LBV

As the only reasonably priced LBV on the Australian market we finally have the 2009 on sale. Dark cherry red that is completely opaque. Rich, dense, chewy palate of cherries with a lick of tannin and slight heat on the finish. Reminds me a little of cough syrup! Definitely intense and I wonde...

Re: Summarise a vintage, concisely

I don't think we have the following yet:

2001: a handy SQVP year
2004: another handy SQVP year
2005: should have been declared?

With fond memories of 1983 Grahams I would say 1983: A solid effort with a pleasant surprise or two.

Re: The Durand corkscrew

Just to comment on Phil's comprehensive method, should one wish to remove a cork that one has inserted into a bottle past the neck, after emptying, once can remove the cork without breaking said bottle by inserting cling wrap. Wash bottle first. After inserting the cling wrap, tilt the bottle down a...

Alternatively, one could enjoy it and think that one could procure another. Just because it is midnight and there is no one sober enough to drive is no excuse; merely obstacles to your imminent satisfaction. Seven miles to the nearest 25 hour Tesco supermarket will be a doddle. Or was it 23 hours? R...

Angels have been busy! Thanks goodness for their willingness to report back accurately :)

But seriously - is such bottle variation desirable?

p.s. after acquiring 3 magnums of Fonseca 2009 this week I now feel that I was overly penurious by not buying all 6.
