But we set up this site because of issues surrounding freedom of speech. As a newbie (I still see myself as one), I was wondering about this for some time. I found this forum by Googling for Port related websites. It was also on this forum where I first heard of the FTLOP website, on which I am a l...

Cool (fridge).
And if possible, get a Trappistes Rochefort. It's one of the seven trappist beers in the world (like Chimay) and from what I heard reasonably available in the States.

1999 Burmester Colheita (bottled 2008)

Bottled in 2008. • decant +0: Dark red-brown leather colour. Lovely nose of leather, oak, some caramel, orangepeel, coffee and even some cherries left. Palette of caramel, raisins, coffee, a hint of prune, and again even some cherries which give this Colheita a surprising youthfullness. Long afterta...

2001 Burmester LBV (unfiltered)

Bottled in 2007. Unfiltered • decant +0: Hardly any crust, a tiny amount of lumpy stuff stuck to the bottom of the bottle. Nothing came out at decanting. Very dark, almost black opaque with dark red rim. Lots of alcohol on the nose, which makes it difficult to smell anything else. Next to cherries, ...

Nice! Where did you find this? It was sort of a lucky find; in Hoog Catharijne opposite the Gall&Gall, there's a cheese shop, which sells really good quality cheeses of the world (e.g. some Stilton  ). They have a small shelf of Andresen (LBV, Colheita & 10yr old next to the obvious T...

2003 Warre LBV

Bottled 2008. Filtered. • decant +1: Very dark red with cherry red rim. There's something bitter on the palette that's not very nice. Some tannins. Cherries and a hint of dark chocolate on the nose. On the palette hardly anything more than cherries and prunes. The next few hours didn't change anythi...

1992 Andresen Colheita (bottled 2007)

Bottled in 2007. Not decanted. It had such a lovely strong nose on opening, that I decided to pour straight from the bottle. Golden brown with bright yellow rim. What a fantastic nose! Almost too much, like it's scented! Lots of caramel and oak on the nose. Also orangepeel, vanilla and raisins. Very...

Re: Utrecht w/b 21st April 2008

A beer tasting sounds like a fantastic idea but I must warn you that I like to taste all the beers in a place. That might cause some problems. 200 different beers? Let's see how far we get. Getting together is normally quite strightforward - find a place to sit down and drink; bring bottles; ...

OK, I'm in the Netherlands for a full working week, which means any day from Monday to Thursday. [...] Anybody up for a tasting? Hi KillerB, I'm up for a tasting, although I haven't got the slightest idea how these things are organised -yet-. Have you ever been to Utrecht before? If you're into bee...

I noticed that Conqueror LBV too today, but was reluctant to buy it.
Judging by your little experiment I think I should try it though, because I really enjoyed the Warre's.

Are you sure it was wet dog and not wet cardboard? Either way, I'd say it was either corked or a flawed bottled. I've had a couple of these, and while not my favorite LBV, there was no wet dog or other strange smell. And it was very fruit forward from the beginning, alibet simple and not to my like...

Some things you have to experience for yourself. decant +1: A light, strange smell... like a wet dog. This is not nice, what is this? No other smell whatsoever. Taste has something bitter. Next to cherries it has too much alcohol to detect any other specific flavours (yet). Although this stran...

How was Eels? I just missed the show due to our move to the desert. I went to the 'with strings' concert a couple of years ago and liked it very much. The gig itself was great. It was just E and Chet and a lot of different instruments. A huge setlist and 2 lengthy encores. The venue was poor though...

Rubby, if you liked this Niepoort LBV, try the 2001. It's much better. Henri Bloem should still have some bottles in stock. Don't let them talk you into buying the 2003, that's a serious let down by Niepoort. (Probably because all the good grapes went into the VP.) Thanks for the tip. To be honest ...

I go about once a month. Last gig I've been to was Eels, 2 weeks ago. Before that it was Nada Surf. Next week is I Am Kloot, if they don't cancel again. Most memorable gigs (up to now): Teenage Fanclub at The Barrowlands in Glasgow Belle & Sebastian in Berlin Dinosaur Jr. in Amsterdam and looong...

2000 Andresen LBV (unfiltered)

Bottled in 2006. decant +1: Small amount of sediment, as fine as dust. Opaque dark red. Remarkable sour nose of lime, blackberries, gooseberries. Medium sweet taste of blackberries, cherries, redcurrant with a hint of banana. Reasonable long aftertaste. decant +2: Nose opening up more, with the init...
