If you have even one '27, I'm on my way to IL! That's my problem, I don't have any! A few years ago it used to be fairly easy to get 1927 Cockburn, a great wine, for about $400 a bottle. Now it's tough to find any 1927 for under $1000. Ah well, the search continues. Jay, if I get one, I'll gi...
I have less than I would like of 1977, 1983, and 1985. I've got some 1992 and 1994, but I'm not concentrating there as they're too expensive and I don't want to wait 20-30 years to drink them.
However, in keeping with Tom and Simon's thoughts, I'm woefully short on 1927s.
The likelihood of there having been small interim bottlings from these producers seems quite high. I am sure you're quite right, if for no other reason than plain economics due to restrictions during the war. As an update, Andre Simon's 1945 book "Vintagewise" shows 1917 as only 39,000 pi...
In my cellar I have an old unmarked bottle that was originally one of a pair - the other, I was told, proved to be F17 Now, find a reference to the existence of that...! Tom Hi Tom, The 1934 book "Port" by Andre Simon doesn't show Fonseca as a shipper in 1917. He lists the following shipp...
Hello all, I thought I would add some info about a cheddar tasting I hosted last week. It's not specifically about port, but we did drink port (a 1992 Fonseca) and the cheese is good with port, so there's a tie-in somewhere. :D Here was the lineup: 1. Montgomery's (I believe aged 2 years) - England ...
Hello all, I don't know if this is the right forum to post this message to, so feel free to move it if it's out of place. I just noticed that The Chicago Wine Company has two double magnums of 1977 Taylor in their next auction. Go to their website, http://www.tcwc.com , and look at auction 383 for d...
I'm sure you're right, because that was a pretty stellar lineup that you had.
I also should have noted that the alcohol was still a bit hot after 24 hours in the decanter. Unfortunately, I can't tell if it would have burned off with nore time, because it's all gone.
I hate to be a contrarian, but I think the 1992 Fonseca is doing just fine at its age. I decanted a bottle last night and drank it tonight. The bottle was part of an original case that I bought as a future and have owned since delivery. It was served tonight when I had some friends over for a chedda...
I have two coolers as well, because the bottle count just keeps on growing. From an economic standpoint, I would recommend the models that you put together yourself. They're fairly easy if you enlist a friend's help, and they're much more economical. The one I have seals great and keeps a pretty con...
I saw some discussion about Passadouro in the '92 Fonseca thread, so I thought I would ask a question. I've got a bottle of both the 1994 and 1997 Passadouro. Does anyone have any thoughts on when they should be opened? I have no experience with these bottlings.
I've got some bottles that I bought at issue. I'll pop one open this weekend, give it about 12 hours in the decanter and see how it is. I'll report back results. It'll be dissappointing if it's not holding together.
Thanks very much for the welcome Alex and Julian. I'm looking forward to learning and sharing about Port.
Julian, after I opened that double mag of 1977 Taylor, I wished I hadn't sold the other two. Although the wine will probably last forever in that format.
