Well if we're going to go to 1963, then I'll take the '63 Noval Nacional. Those have to be wasted guesses though... don't they?

1948 Taylor
Actually, I'll be very surprised if it goes that late, but figured I'd grab that one just in case.

Re: Latest buy
Though I have not yet received formal notification, the auction is now closed and it appears that I was the only bidder on a 1963 Noval for $85. :D Is that the one from Brentwood? I did came across Noval '63 for 85EUR on a UK webshop. Yup, this was from the Brentwood auction. I'm knutliott there (a...

Alannis Morrisette had a song called "Ironic" with lots of little unfortunate stories, none of which were ironic, except maybe the crashing plane but that's a bit gruesome. My favorite example of irony, because I firmly believe that neither she nor her handlers are smart enough to have co...

Re: Wanted: high-resolution picture of a port stain
Would it photograph red when still wet? No. While still wet, the paper turns grey ("wet paper color") due to the moisture. In order to get any decent color at all you have to let it dry first. The very first attempt I made using the dregs of a bottle is still the best result I've produced...

If you hold it on the 30th there's a small chance that I can fly over for it. If I'm still unemployed at that time then there'd really be nothing standing in my way.
But of course I won't know for sure until at least the middle of October.

Re: Wanted: high-resolution picture of a port stain
I have re-tried this several times with several different Ports, and I cannot make a stain that appears red once dried. So far all of my attempts have faded toward brown or grey-brown when they dry. I'm tempted to make my Port-seared Scallops recipe again soon, and I suspect that the reduction would...

While I am confident that I could have as many pears from my mother-in-law's tree as I would like, that tree is 50 miles away. And sadly, my yard is far too small to support another tree so I cannot simply plant one myself.

Re: The effect of ratings
Yup. I've read about several studies like this one or studying the "reputation of the producer" corollary, and they all come to the same basic conclusion. This is why I firmly believe that ratings should always be done blind, especially professional ratings. No matter how objective you thi...

The second was the problem of ink-jet printers, the ink smudging if wetted even slightly. For which my suggestion (used in practice) was simply to spray the ink-jet printed pages with an artist's fixer. Such sprays are commonly used to prevent watercolour and pastels from smudging or running when m...
