1952 Niepoort Garrafeira
tasted April 2004 with tsunami: Again WOW. Lady Roots and I were so incredibly happy that we found this port a while ago that we thought it would be an ideal wine for this offline. So together with Stevie we bought another bottle and drank it on day 1. All I can say is that I am very happy to have a...

1955 Graham
Tasted April 2004 with tsunami:
WOW. I loved this to pieces. A unique port that is full of power and live. The remains with the sediment that we tried the next morning ( ) had even gained in colour, complexity and power, and proved that it could have been decanted in advance.

1994 Romariz
Tasted April 2004 with tsunami:
I was extremely and very pleasantly surprised by this port. The power it showed was incredible. It may not have the complexity of for instance a Fonseca, but it is very well made and will hold for quite some time.

2001 Quinta de Ventozelo
Tasted March 2004: Quinta de Ventozelo is one of those small producers that have started to sell their ports as "estate bottlings" rather than sell their stock to the major port companies. Actually, the company is not so small at all; it is a large player in the bulk port market. I visited...

1978 Kopke Colheita
Tasted August 2004: StevieCage already posted on this one, and was so kind to save some for me. Remarkable about this port is that it is quite dry. The nose is almost sherry-like. It has a pleasant bitterness in the taste, but the real kick is in the finish. Here everything comes together (raisins, ...

1989 Quinta da Romaneira LBV
Tasted August 2004: Traditionally made (four years on oak, not filtered). Very light ruby in colour, with light brown edges. The nose is very ripe, predominantly dried figs, along with mild milk chocolate and a touch of freshness (almost neglectable). It tastes slightly hot and alcoholic. There is a...

1996 Quinta da Romaneira
Tasted August 2004: Bought this for 18,50 euro. Beautiful deep dark purple colour, with a bright pink rim. It smells very fruity: plums and cherries. There is a smoky edge to it. The taste is full sweet, very round and soft, with sweet fruit (jam of plums). Good integrated, but firm tannins. Slightl...

1999 Niepoort Secundum
1999 Niepoort Secundum (barrel sample) Tasted somewhere 2003: Beautiful dark purple color, moving towards pink around the edges. This port smells of lovely flowery perfume, young berries and green spices. It tastes of hot cherry/plum jam. It isn't all too complex and it's medium bodied with soft ta...

She likes you. :) But she's a bit stressed at the moment. Work is being done in our house (the ceiling is gone and we can wave to our upstair neighbours) and it's a complete mess. However, she insists on laying on her favorite spot. Every evening when I come home, she's completely covered in dust. P...

1995 Churchill Agua Alta
Tasted June 2007: Rather evolved colour. Nose of tar, chocolate and some leather. Fairly light bodied with sour berries, again some chocolate and some old tones. Tannins have pretty much disappeared. Spirity on the finish. Not a bad glass of port, but already too much evolved for the vintage (and pr...

1995 Taylor Vargellas
Tasted June 2007: Recent notes on how this is drinking, especially that from the folks from the Crusting Pipe offline, made me think we should try one of these, since we have a case. We've been to the Douro recently with friends and walked through the Vargellas vineyards, so it seemed apropriate to ...

1995 Krohn
Tasted November 2004: We still owed StevieCage a birthday gift (a nice copy of James Sucklings book Vintage Port), and since his birthday was already three weeks ago, we thought we'd better pour him some port as well... Decanted approximately one hour before drinking, some fine sediment was poured w...

1991 Krohn
Tasted April 2006: I've tasted the 1997 and 1995 before and quite liked them. Considering the fact that these porst usually cost little over ┚¬20,- they are nice drinkers for weekdays. This 1991 was poured from a half bottle (bottled 1994!) and was clearly not up to the 1995 and 1997. Very sweet...

1963 Niepoort
Tasted January 2006: With a big thank you to StevieCage for sharing this bottle. :) The bottle was in perfect shape with a better fill level than anyone could hope from a 43 year old wine. After a succesful decapitation (I'm sure Stevie will post some pictures of the port-tong-ritual) it was decante...

1970 Niepoort
Tasted October 2006: This bottle is part of a series of older Niepoort vintages we're tasting (1963, 1966, 1970, 1975, 1977). Only the 1963 has been tasted so far. We planned to open the 1966 this evening, but since StevieCage had to cancel last minute, and he already tasted the 1970, we decided on ...

Tasted December 2005 (still have some .375's, must try one again soon!): This is one of the better QPR's (or VFM's in KillerB's terms) around at ┚¬ 12,99 per 375ml. I had this a couple of times already, but apparently never bothered to produce a TN. So here it goes: (decanted for 1,5 - 2 hours) ...

1997 Krohn Retiro Novo
Tasted in December 2004: Dark concentrated red colour with an almost black core. Turning to pale pink on the rim. It smells very sweet with jammy plums, dark chocolate and a creamy touch. No apparent alcohol. Lots of dark fruit on the palate, with mainly blackberries and (caramelized) plums. Sweet a...

1977 Graham's Vintage Port
I will copy paste a good deal of my TN's just because it's fun to have them here as well. I'll start off with a TN that is not actually mine, but LadyR's. I doubt if she will be posting here (or anywhere) because she's always crazy busy at work. This weekend Ronnie and I opened a bottle of Graham's ...

I heard there is a party going on over here? 8) I voted for 1963. Mostly based on heresay, because I actually only tasted one '63 (Niepoort, being fully mature and great) and two '66's (Sandeman and Noval, both not the greatest examples of the vintage probably). But, from what I read and heard, the ...
