Anne,

I work in Reading (and hail from Swansea-but no Bournemouth or Soton connection however!) and have sent you a PM.

The G66 is I believe my one and only bottle but happy to provide together with a T66. Is the dividing up now complete (subject to additional attendees)?

Re: Wed 17 June 2015, The Sweet-spot Vintages (66,70,77)

Given that we've tasted quite a lot of Fonseca this year, would it be worth exploring whether including Taylor instead of Fonseca in the line-up makes it easier to source bottles? I have but a single bottle of F66 (and from a different source from that brought the other night) but I do have a few m...

Re: Tue 05 May 2015, Boot & Flogger, Fonseca

Echo the above-great night and well organised (although we need to be mindful of their requirements for glasses going forward). We almost had a perfect first sheet (ie the six oldest wines) only spoilt by the oxidised F60, although I took some consolation in the two other wines I brought (F55 and F6...

Whilst I would not consider myself a Monarchist, Port drinking wins out and so please put me down for this tasting. Not sure whether the theme allows for duplicated years-it it does, I will bring a D60 or if not, a FG64.

I think there are now 7 of us with AHB thus shall we plan on 3 shippers Graham, Fonseca and either Dow or Warre? (but no 63's) As organiser, Mike suggested Warre to be his third in line and so suggest we go with this and so that would be currently 9 bottles between 7 which appears manageable. For m...

Re: Tues 5 May, The Best of the Fonseca Bicentennial Tasting

The F66 (bottled by BBR) decanted at 7am; the F60 (Oporto bottled) at 1.15pm and the F55 (bottled by Peatling and Cawdron) at 1.30pm. Hopeful about the 66 and 55, less so the 60 as it was a leaker and the cork plunged into the bottle before the worm had hardly touched it- still, fingers crossed!

Re: Is it misleading to sell a 79-88 colheita as 36 yo?

Glenn's right- in my experience most auction houses (and that includes the specialist wine auctions) simply don't have clue when it comes to colheitas; consistently failing to include the bottling date in the description and believing that the cask year on the bottle is analogous with a VP of the sa...

1977 Croft

Apperared to be a leaker although the seal seemed good. Nonetheless, decanted and started drinking at D+1. 30% opaque and reasonably mature with red fruit still present. Seemed to go downhill at D+24 but somewhat strangely, at D+48, it seem to have revived-still mature in taste but with more structu...

Yes. The port ones. I wanted to do the madeira in view of the unknown line-up for the VP but decided I like port more than I like madeira. Knowing the restriction this year about not being able to attend consecutive tastings I still tried to go for both the Port ones and the Madeira but unless I op...

Re: Tues 5 May, The Best of the Fonseca Bicentennial Tasting

Before DRT’s announcement we had fifteen bottles for thirteen people. If we don’t replace his bottles we become thirteen bottles for a dozen people, which would be less than our standard per capita . If I can turn up a 92 (and maybe a 94), we'll then have 14 (or 15) bottles (one of which is a magnu...

Mother-in-law visiting again. Given 12 hour decant (the bottle not the mother-in-law!),40% opaque, still plenty of red fruit but with early signs of maturity. This drank beautifully over the course of the evening once the initial heat had worn off. A perfect accompaniment to the Perl las Welsh blue ...

Re: What is VP's current sweet spot

I can only echo the sentiments expressed above. It would seem that the 66s and 70s are great vintages and currently in perfect drinking windows. I've had more of the latter than former (as Mike suggests, the 66s are harder to source) and besides an underwhelming Hutcheson 70, they've pretty much all...

I also got another 3 Mz94 for 25 a pop from Seckford's. Added to the 4 I have already, I am now well on the way to owning a case of it, as I explained to James Maitland. So you're the one who keeps availing themselves of these! I have kept meaning to buy (£30 each I guess, inc VAT?) but never press...

Re: Mon 9 Feb 2015, Seventies, Boot & Flogger

Great evening with all Ports (bar the flawed G77) readily drained. As has been observed, the number of Ports garnering points was reflective of the quality on offer. Food not quite up to the quality of last time but this a very good venue. Not quite sure about the Ck70 I brought being described as m...
