2000 Quinta do Noval LBV (unfiltered)

Another holiday in Switzerland and another bottle of Novals unfiltered LBV withdrawn from my abroad cellar. Deep red colour with a lot less violett than I had last year. Very nice fruity nose with plum and rasberry, strong alcoholic note. The mouth is very complex, fruity with lots of tannin to last...

In Germany you will hardly find a bottle below 120 EUR. All due to the Scoring.

1994 Quinta de la Rosa Colheita

Welcome to the Colheita-Club. The 94 La Rosa Colheita is the first Colheita of La Rosa at all - and one you should have a sip. A bright red colour with a very good nutty bouquet. The alcohol is very present, too. In the mouth the wine has a good structure and a strong nutty aroma. A midweight and ve...

1988 Fonseca Guimaraens

A pretty light red colour. Would have guessed it to be a 77. The bouquet shows some nice spice aromas and a lot of coffee, not really fruity. In the mouth this wine is a lightweight, but very spicy. Nice aftertaste. Not a bombshell, but something you shouldn't miss. And after all we are talking abou...

1995 Dows Bomfim VP

Drunk during the essencia do vinho at the Symingtons stand: The Dows Bomfim 95 is very open and fruity now. Medium structure. The nose is showing blackberry and cherry aromas with a good intensity. In the mouth this aroma is backboned by a good alcoholic and tannic structure. The aftertaste is very ...

Outstanding idea. But I think it might be best to have someone run it on pdf at home and you distribute it on demand or have it downloadable. I would distribute certain years to others who would be happy to assist, giving them a format to fill out and then summarize it. As Im a total novice in progr...

I voted for the Boa Vista, I had the 80s Grahams quiete often, I am not too much convinced by the Burmester VPs in total (though curious how the 77 would be) and I just had the 82 Boa Vista, which was surprisingly complex and very pleasant.

Go for the 85 Boa Vista.

Another bullshit about port

I just discovered a another bullshit on the german ebay site. Someone is selling a bottle of 73 Noval LBV and a bottle of 82 Flagman VP. He says that the bottles were stored upright in perfect condition. Someone post a question saying that he doesnt know a lot about port, but he thought these bottle...

The worst thing about the scoring system is that everyone reading the TN summarizes everything written to the points. Most people dont even read the TN, just take the scoring points and base their buying strategy by this. I do score for myself but normally do not publish it. It is a kind of an educa...

Cool Topic,

but I just found out that Cockburns has some 77 stock in their cellar. This is a bottle I would like to bring to the vertical (in September???)

Im now close to the point if you give me the choice to spend the weekend with the swedish bikini team in the spa or go to the Douro - I would have to think twice. There are so many quintas and it seems that time stood still. But without at least some portugese it is sometimes quite difficult. Next e...

You are totally right - this is a good topic and worthy a discussion.

Ich würde sagen, dass dies nicht nötig ist, denn jeder Port-Trinker sollte auch in der Lage sein, die Rückenetiketten von Portweinflaschen zu lesen und die sind auch selten auf Deutsch.

For all you english-speaking guys out there: NO.

I just visited the Cockburns cellars and they have a lot of ancient bottles over there - I guess for sale as well.

So we should go for a Cockburns vertical in September!!!

In my point of view the Noval 85 was even worse than the Nacional 77, but here are mine - strictly withouth Fonseca:

1931 Noval
1963 Nacional
1945 Grahams

Axel

P.S. Interesting read from the others

P.S.P.S.: The 88 Vesuvio was much better than the 93
