Re: Croft, Tue 07 Nov 2023, at the B&F
A thoroughly enjoyable evening with excellent company; overall the wines showed well, though with some variations. - the ’27 was quite oxidised (as expected from previously-leaked bottle with light colour) - the ’45 was not singing as much as it can, though still showed well enough to garner my thre...

Re: 1955 Croft
Double decanted at 07:45.
(notes for Glenn :
Decanted from bottle into decanter through single piece of sterile gauze;
Decanted from decanter back into bottle just using funnel)
Smells lovely.

Re: 1970 Graham, Wine Society Bottling versus Oporto Bottling
Wine Society port bottlings are generally decent, and I've had no problem with their Graham 1970 so far. Their bottles are on the lighter (colour) side, but so are most of the Oporto-bottled Graham 1970 which I've seen. Might the auction house be commenting on the group of particular bottles you are...

Re: Croft vertical, Tue 07 Nov 2023
- Grilled pitta, lemon, coriander houmous I can’t see this on B&F’s dining menu . It is on their bar menu which they've always been previously happy to include - this has been my most commonly chosen starter for the last few years - however if any issue then please change to soup (especially if...

Re: "Port Edition" Durand coming soon - and UK purchase possibility
Just to let those who have told me they might be interested - I am still waiting on pricing and any further info; I have told the supplier roughly how many of us are interested subject to those details; I'll be in touch by PM/email once I hear further.

"Port Edition" Durand coming soon - and UK purchase possibility
Several of us own Durand corkscrews, and it is my corkscrew of choice for reliably extracting corks from old bottles (provided that I know what they are, otherwise I use tongs as the ah-so part of the Durand can obliterate the branding on the side of the cork). The one improvement I would like would...

Re: Leaking cork, what should i do?
Obviously it's not ideal, but nor is it particularly uncommon, depending on the age of the bottle and its cork condition, and the amount of temperature (and pressure) change the bottle undergoes during its transportation (hence the general preference to transport during cooler months). Here's what I...

Re: Port brand abbreviations
Dolamore and Quinta Dona Matilde are of different eras, with, I suspect, no vintages in common. No good question should go unanswered; to the best of my knowledge: - Dm : Dolamore BOB vintage port from 1966..1982 - BrDM : Barros Quinta Dona Matilde (single quinta) vintage port from 1982..2002 - (q)...

Re: 1925 Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman Vargellas port
In some way this is a real unicorn of a bottle, as there is so very little to go on to create a market. I can only find one other 1925 vintage (this was a SQVP but from a different lodge) being auction in the UK in the last few years, which realised £300, plus this is one of the most expensive auct...

Re: 1925 Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman Vargellas port
For me the next step would be to find the value of the bottle, I am certainly open to having a seat at a tasting. I am more of a collector of wine, the best part of the wine collecting and tasting is opening a bottle with friends, like minded people! Again thank you all for your input and passion!!...

Re: Port brand abbreviations
Dm = Dolamore? Ick. While allowed, having both DM and Dm seems ripe to cause confusion. Perhaps Do for Dolomore? I'm less worried about Dm vs DM . We already have similarly VZ (Van Zeller) vs Vz (Quinta de Ventozelo), and I suspect there will be others. Admittedly I've started pre-pending with"...

Re: NV Quevedo White 30YO (bottled 2022) - Tonel 14: Granpa's White
I differed slightly on this. Fascinating to try, but I put Grandpa's and Claudia's top, followed by Senior and then Junior; I clearly liked Claudia's much more than both of you. And since we'd been trying a lot of blending, I was messing around and found that the best I could come up with was a blen...
