I can't say I've seen any major issues with them leaking. Leaking could be from a bad cork as Tom pointed out, but also from heat damage...a far more common thing in young wines. I generally don't buy leakers, especially young wines that have leaked, for this reason. Older wines I can be more tolera...

Alex, I was wondering too about the initial like of this. I to have never been a big fan of the Dow's LBV's for the reasons you stated.

Alex,

I was just going to ask the cost. But for free, that is a very good line up. I'm lucky if I can find one, at best two, Port tastings per year around me. Yet dry wine tastings are almost everyday

NV Kopke Tawny 10YO (bottled 2006)

375ml, bottled in 2006 Finished the last glass of the Graham's 10 year tawny so I opened this 1/2 bottle. The nose is so much more expressive than the Graham's 10 year. Vanilla, nuts, spicy pudding, and more vanilla. This has a richer and fuller palate with almonds, nutmeg, cloves, and a touch of he...

Seems the annual UK sell-a-thon is getting some heat from a couple Portuguese producers. Guess they are tired of the UK markets selling Port for super cheap prices during the holidays. i have no problem buying at cheap prices, and personnally think it helps to keep those making a less than top notch...

With work kicking my arse (the 21 hr shifts) and the holidays this week, I've not had much time, nor drank much stuff since a week ago last monday...although I did have a pint of some local hooch last night. Maybe tonight I'll open that Graham's 10 yr tawny....if I got time.

Crusted Ports were really the LBV's of their time. As Tom pointed out, they were known as the "Poor mans Port" becuause they were cheaper than their VP counterpart yet still matured in bottle. There are very few producers still making Crusted Ports, as most have shifted to just unfiltered ...

VVV is basically a "Vinyard Designated" wine, just like Noval's Nacional. As its only from one small section on the Vargellas property. However, since there is no such classification by the IVDP they still fall under the SQVP designation by the IVDP. As for bottling, they now bottle VVV on...
