Re: Friday 13th February: Graham vertical in New York

I gather that John may or may not show and he will not know until a few days before the tasting. I would treat him as at best a maybe. That means that we either have to decide what bottles to drop or find some more folks. I need to let my storage facility know no later than next Monday about what I ...

Re: Friday 13th February: Graham vertical in New York

Julian suggested 7 pm, which sounds fine to me. As to food, in the past when we have been at my house, we have ordered out after about an hour and a half (after initially tasting the ports). Anyone is also free to eat beforehand, of course.

Re: 2000 Ramos-Pinto

First, thank you Julian for the tasting sample that arrived on Saturday. I drank it that evening before dinner. It was dark purple. The nose was rich with black pepper and dark brown (burned?) sugar notes. The aftertaste also had the dark brown (burned?) sugar notes. There was a bit of an unpleasant...

Sounds good to me also with the one caveat that the prices be US and not UK prices. Thanks for the offer Julian.

I am happy to host the group again at my home in Brooklyn.

How shall we wack up the costs?

Is our Siberian comrade joining us?

Do we have only six attendees so far?

Re: Friday 13th February: Graham vertical in New York

Where are we with this tasting? I count Julian, Jay, Josh, Eric (?) and Jeff (?). Who else? We have many more bottles than tasters at the relatively relaxed New York limit of one bottle per person.

Having now finally pulled out next year's date book, I see that I will have to pass on April 18.

I'll never make a port tasting within two weeks of another port tasting so I pass on whatever is decided for Feb 27.

Re: four months in NYC

Much as I love port and the company of the New York port fanatics, I can't muster the stamina or will power for more than one tasting in any four week period. It takes me at least two days to recover from our typical event.

I would like someday to have a Malvedos tasting, so my suggestion is that the 1988 Malvedos be saved for that occasion.

Re: Graham vertical in New York

And I cannot make January 3. It would be a shame to lose Jeff and SushiNorth seems constrained in January. Why not just roll this forward until the second weekend in February, i.e., 14 or 15 Feb? It sounds as if we have two other tastings from Julian's stash in which a number of folks have expressed...

Re: Graham vertical in New York

I have heard from three folks by pm, so I assume that we can try to plan a Graham's vertical for January. I can supply the 1960, 1963, 1977 and 1991. That leaves us only the 1966 and the 1975. I agree with Julian's earlier comment that the 1975 should not cost anywhere near $140.00. A quick search o...

Re: Graham vertical in New York

I won't be near my port list for about ten days (I am in Yorkshire enjoying the howling of the wind). Off the top of my head, I have the 1963, 1977 and (I believe) the 1991. I am pretty sure that I do not have the 1966 or 1975.

Re: Apr 2009, New York: Classic years of Taylor, Fonseca, Warre

There is one more possible theme that comes out of Julian's American stash: a Graham vertical. I have 1a number of the years that Julian does not have starting with 1963. As Graham is my favorite house, this would be of great interest to me.
