Re: 2008 Single Quinta Vintage Port Taylor Fladgate
Does anybody have any early views on this vintage? I'm always a bit dubious about buying port so early on, but I quite like the fact that TFP are doing mixed cases. WS1 - may you tell us where those prices are from? BBR have yet to release anything. Derek and I have some samples to work through. I ...

Tuesday 7th September - Dow Vertical at TCP
So far, at least as my memory tells me, we only have two tasting events planned for the autumn / winter season. These being the "55 @ 55" - which I will start to organise properly when Roy lets me know whether or not he is organising a second week of his harvest tour - and the Christmas Of...

Re: Who Needs To Detox?
I can proudly say that I have joined in this exercise frenzy and have done my bit to match Derek's mountain walking, Glenn's marathon sprinting and Andy's cycling from Los Angeles to Seattle for a port tasting. This afternoon I went to Henley, had tea in Raymond Blanc's spledid tea shop and strolled...

1996 Quinta de Vargellas vintage port
Deep red colour, right into the rim. Marmite on the nose; raisins and rubber. Soft tannins in the mouth, restraied fruit showing some of the beef stock of heat. Good levels of fruit and plenty of interest. Sweet and fruity aftertaste; quite big and with good length. Needs at least another 10 years. ...

Mature, mid-red colour, going rose on the rim. Very off nose, somewhat antiseptic with perhaps some bitter sloes. Quite sweet in the mouth, albeit slightly hollow but a mid-palate belance of damsons and violet drops. Dry, blueberry jelly finish with a dry and tannic length of a good duration. 90/100...

Mid red colour, showing young maturity. Very restrained nose, with nothing much more than some dusty redcurrants. Sweet, balanced and elegant, showing early maturity. Quite dry but with good levels of fruit. Dry finish, with plenty of fruit and a very good length of very good volume. A nice wine - o...

Very pale colour, green on the rim and a volatile nose. Weak and aged on the palate showing sweetness, but not much fruit. Believe to have been badly light damaged. Not rated. Poured 26 May 2010.

First bottle was corked. A young looking wine, deep in colour with an opaque centre and a deeply coloured rim. Chocolate, cherries and damsons on the nose. Silky in texture, young and tannic structure supporting a massive wine with a huge amount going on. Blueberry juice everywhere. Soft and fruity ...

Looking in colour to be in the early stages of maturity. Mature nose, open and full of maraschino cherry. Sweet and a little simple in the mouth, with candied fruit but no tannins. Very sweet. Soft and lingering aftertaste, although a little short. A port to drink and enjoy over the next 10 years. 9...

1963 Ferreira vintage port
Lovely sweet starwberry jam on the nose, with some freash sage or basil aromatics. Sweet ont the tongue, gentle and fruity - perhaps a bit flabby but with some tannins still supporting the flavours. Pleasant and elegant. Good fruit based aftertaste, good volume and nice length. 88/100. Drunk 26 May ...

Dark gold in colour, with a pale yellow rim and just a hint of green. Initial impact on the nose is a massive wave of VA, very reminiscent of a bual madeira, which was consistent with the colour! Underneath the VA was a little rosemary, antiseptic and perhaps some sweetened gooseberry. In the mouth ...

25 May 2010, somewhere north of Henley, a blind tasting
On 25th May, work caused me to be in the northern suburbs of Henley Upon Thames and Derek kindly agreed to meet up and share some port. In total, 5 of us met at Rowley's Restaurant in Baslow and enjoyed a thoroughly nice evening with great service (thanks Abbey!) good food and some interesting learn...

Pity we can't talk about LBV as well as vintage - Croft 2004 Unfiltered for £12 a bottle today and £3 per half bottle at Christmas. Eira Velha 2000 for $15 (but needs another 15 years) and 1997 $40 Fonseca Guimaraens 1988 for $30 and 1996 for $35 Most recent Crasto vintages Most recent Smith Woodhou...

Re: Noval Nacional 1931
Does anyone here know or suspect they have consumed a counterfeit bottle? I (along with Julian, Andy, Alex, and Roy) opened a fake Croft vintage from the 30's that wasn't even a declared vintage for a vertical we held in Boston a couple of years ago. Had a copied Croft looking label and I think a t...

Re: 19 May 2010, The Bowler, 1960 Horizontal
I thoroughly enjoyed the evening, very much for the company rather than the wines which I think Chris described very accurately as "meh". Drinkable and acceptable but certainly not ones to add to the cellar at £120+ per bottle. However, it was great to see Gustavo and Oscar again and a rea...

Latest update: Heathrow airspace was closed between 1am and 7am, but is expected to reopen at 7am and is not expected to close again in the near future. Flights in and out of Heathrow may have to follow an unusual routing. On the positive side, I have to meet a flight from Dallas that left last nigh...

Are you sure? AJS might also have been Andrew James Symington?
Roy also refers to it as both AJS Da Silva and AJ Da Silva.
Any Idea who has the bottle, or was it one of the bottles you photographed?

Re: June Offline 14th June- Crusting Pipe - 1982 horicontal
Annoyingly, I was putting this date in the family diary and realised that it is the week that Elizabeth is away on the school residential trip. I am therefore the parent in charge for a week and can't be late back from London. Sorry, I will have to bow out unless we can move the date back a week to ...

Re: June Offline 14th June- Crusting Pipe - 1982 horicontal
A thought has just occurred to me. The Crusting Pipe becomes very warm as a venue in the summer. Last year we found that the warmth of the location in the height of the summer affected some of the ports quite badly, with them becoming very alcoholic. We overcame this with some ice buckets to keep te...

I can make either date, but would prefer Monday 14th.
I would have to adopt, the only 1982 vintage port. Is anyone willing to offer something for adoption?
