Re: 1945 Taylor

Rim is clear, light red/brown going to lovely burgundy core. Nose is full-on, almost heady, dried fruit and nuts, caramel and brandy. Palate has same notes as the nose and the ending is very long. Stunning port and my 2nd favourite of the night. 95 pts.

Re: 1955 Taylor

Notably darker than the anomalous T50 SQ. Rim is clear, rust red/brown going to rich ruby core. Really lovely nose, warm, rounded soft fruit. Palate is very good, perhaps a little short on fruit but with warm notes of caramel and brandy. Slightly hot. 90 pts.

Re: 1950 Taylor Special Quinta

By far the lightest of the line-up. Clear rim, dark orange to light red/brown core. Nose has burnt caramel and oranges but otherwise lacking in fruit. Palate is thin, again with oranges and caramel. Wine seems past its prime with the bulk of the fruit gone leaving a hot and unbalanced wine which inc...

Re: 1948 Taylor

Clear rim, lovely rust red going towards a see-through burgundy red/brown core. Glorious nose which is full of raisin, prunes and caramel followed by warm alcohol. Great silky mouthfeel. Bit of a blockbuster but perfectly balanced and with a very good amount of rich dried fruit. Aftertaste is very l...

Clear rim, rusty burgundy to light ruby core. Nose is balanced with fruit, caramel and rich brandy-esque notes. Palate is silky and the wine has a great mouth feel, red fruit, caramel and a hint of dried nuts. Very very good. 92 pts.

Clear rim, see through burgundy and light ruby core. Lovely fruit-forward nose with raisins and dark orange marmelade. Palate is hit with dried fruit and warm alcohol in great balance. Gorgeous wine. 92 pts.

Re: 1966 Taylor

Clear rim, going from light burgundy to dark see-through ruby. Nose is rather hot and perhaps a little thin with notes of prunes and toffee. On the palate it comes across as more balanced with dried fruit, prunes and those slightly burnt caramel notes. Ending is long and although the wine is on the ...

Re: 1976 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas

Lighter than both 70s which preceded it. Clear rim with a burnt orange/light burgundy core. Nose is hot and a bit simple, lacking in fruit but with some floral notes. Palate is soft with a perfectly respectable amount of red light fruit but also a tad simple. An enjoyable wine on any other night i'm...

Re: 1970 Taylor Quinta de Vargellas

Rim is clear with a pinkish tinge with a dark but see-through ruby core. Nose is rather light with some caramel, floral notes and red fruit. On the palate it is to the point, rather mellow (as opposed to hot) and well balanced with red fruit and floral notes. Aftertaste is lovely and long. A very en...

Re: 1970 Taylor

Clear rim, rust red going to ruby core. Some raisin and prune on the nose. On the palate a bit muted, light and restrained. Fruit not so much in evidence and this did not hit the same heights as other T70s have before. 88 pts.

In my haste to announce my desire to attend, I failed to realise (in time) that the event is not in London. Hence, i hereby withdraw my application for a seat at the table.

Recent purchases include single bottles of: '60 Croft '66 Taylor '67 Cockburn (consumed) '70 Warre (consumed) '85 Taylor '97 QdV '00 Skeffington and a case of Noval '94. The remaining singles are primarily intended for future TPF events. I was hoping that I could offload these to a kind soul who may...

Alex, Thanks for organising the event and thanks also to those who brought mystery bottles, it was a brilliant evening. If you can find the time/effort required to scan and email, it would be greatly appreciated. I have PM'd you my email address and I will make a stab at posting the notes somewhat c...

G94 - pricing anomaly?

Graham '94 appears seriously unloved from a price perspective and I would be interested in hearing from members of this forum why this is the case. This port can routinely be had for just under 30 GBP per bottle in bond which to me seems odd given the vintage's standing, comments from critics and mo...

Re: 24th Sept 2012, Warre's vs Fonseca

Despite being seriously out of my depth it was indeed a fantastic evening with a stellar lineup of wines, the vast majority of which showed tremendously well. On the whole, I found it very difficult to separate out the "duds" and as mentioned above, apart from W60 and W85 it was almost a p...

Re: Mon 24th Sept 2012 - Fonseca vs Warres head to head

I would very much like to attend, provided there's availability of course. Having never attended one before, it seems like a great way to get my port tasting feet wet. I can sponsor a bottle purchased retail if gaps still exist and of course top up to the overall cost per head of £125, should that b...
